The others nodded in agreement, then moved to the room just off the lobby where food and water were stockpiled.
“I could come with you,” the youngest female with a black soul said, sauntering over with sinuous grace. She stopped directly in front of Amaros and gazed up at him in fake adoration.“I promise you won’t regret it,” she added suggestively. She gave Camriel the once over as well, including him in her seduction.
“We don’t have room in our car,” Amaros told her, obsidian eyes boring into hers.He used his innate abilities with a wave of his hand.
“Fine,” she said with a shrug, suddenly losing interest.“I’m sure I’ll find someone who’ll appreciate me,” she added cattily, then strode off in a huff.
“How do you do that?”Zoe asked, scowling like she wanted to claw the girl’s eyes out.
Camriel was pleased to see her jealousy. It meant she was feeling territorial over his boss.“Amaros can use mind control on normal humans,” he said.“All of the knights can to some extent, but it’s easier when we’ve all gathered together and our strength increases.”
Grace was awed by that revelation.“You can turn them into your puppets?”
“It’s more like giving them strong suggestions that they find hard to ignore,” Amaros explained.
“Three of those females are dangerous,” Camriel said in a low voice.
“Yeah, we know,” Zoe agreed.“That blonde girl about Grace’s age is one of them,” she added with a glower, then pointed out the other two.“What should we do about them?”she asked.
“Did you see what they did to have black souls?”Amaros queried.
“The oldest one targets elderly people,” Zoe reported.“She kills them and loots their houses. The one a bit younger than her has lured several teenage boys into empty buildings with the promise of sex.Instead, she slaughtered them. The blonde one likes pain and she enjoys inflicting it on other people. It’s only a matter of time before she starts to kill.”
Amaros and Camriel shared a glance.“I’ll make sure they leave together,” Amaros said.
“I’ll get ahead of them,” Camriel replied.“The world will be safer with three fewer psychos running around causing trouble.”
“They’ll be five minutes behind the others,” Amaros said.
With a nod, the big warrior headed for the door.He had plenty of time to find a spot where he could wait for the women out of sight of the road.Half an hour passed before several vehicles approached.Camriel remained hidden as the convoy drove past him.Five minutes later, the final vehicle drove towards him.
Camriel stepped out of hiding and held his hands up peacefully. He knew the car would slow down rather than speeding up and trying to run him down.Amaros had instilled a command for them to stop when they saw him.
The driver was the oldest of the trio. She lowered her window as he approached.“How did you get ahead of us?”she asked, still in a slight daze from the heavy suggestions she’d been given. They were all wearing the clothing that had been stripped from them.
Camriel didn’t bother to reply. He pulled the pistol he’d tucked into the small of his back and fired twice.Blood and brains from the driver splattered on the woman in the passenger seat. She was beyond caring, since the bullet had already passed through her temple and shattered the window. The young seductress in the back was slumped to the side, just as dead as her companions.
Opening the driver’s door, the knight moved the female to the back, then shifted the seat back before climbing in.He found a dirt road a few miles up the road and turned onto it.Passing a picturesque meadow, Camriel parked the car off the road deep in the woods, then left the trio inside to rot together.
It didn’t bring him any joy to dispose of the females. It was just one of the unpleasant aspects of the job he’d been performing for his entire existence.
“It will be different this time,” he said as he raced back to the resort.“Soon, I’ll have a cambion of my own.I’ll never have to return to the Void where I’ll be all alone.”
They never felt anything when they returned to the Void, yet he always woke with a sense of loneliness. He knew the others felt the same way, even if they wouldn’t admit it.Amaros might doubt that his team would want to grasp hold of the opportunity Fate was offering them.Camriel wasn’t so sure. Some might fight it, but they would cave in.Especially if they had the same bond that Zoe and Amaros were fighting so hard to pretend didn’t exist.
Amaros was waiting for him in the parking lot when Camriel reached the resort.“It’s done?”he asked.
“Of course,” his second confirmed.“I hid their car a few miles into the woods,” he reported.
“The girls are choosing the beds they want,” Amaros told him.“Why don’t you drive my truck to our base, then unload your truck? You can bring it back here and we’ll transport the furniture in the back.”
“I get to drive the tank again,” Camriel said with a grin.He took the keys, then took off at a sprint. It didn’t take him long to park the black truck beneath the trees next to their base.He ran back to where he’d left the red truck and drove it to the base as well, then unpacked all the gear.He was driving back into the resort parking lot an hour later.
“That’s a cute truck,” Grace said in amusement as she and Zoe emerged from the building.
Camriel scowled at the unmanly description.“It’s just temporary until I find something bigger,” he said defensively.
“It’s a good size for us girls to drive around,” Zoe figured.
