Studying her while she wept, the warrior was conflicted.Fate and her consort had given him a choice that he hadn’t had time to process yet.A cold breeze reminded him that he was naked. His nudity didn’t bother him, but the girl seemed to be embarrassed by it.

The fact that he saw her as a girl rather than a woman spoke volumes. She was young, vulnerable and had a strange appeal he couldn’t identify.Seeing her shoulders shake with her sobs, he realized something disturbing.Amaros wanted to comfort the creature. He didn’t like hearing her noises of distress. It was so unlike him that he wondered if she’d charmed him.Her kind had strange powers.Zoe had already admitted she received visions. He wondered what other talents she possessed.

“Zoe,” Amaros said, keeping his tone neutral rather than harsh.Being too hard on her would only send her into a deeper spiral of unhappiness.

“What?”she asked with a hint of defiance. Her hands were still covering her face, but she shifted her fingers apart so she could see him.Wild brunette hair drifted around her face, falling to her shoulders.

“Will you allow me to scan you?”he asked, holding out his hand. Her gaze shifted to his fingers and she warily lowered her hands.Even tearstained, she was beautiful. He skimmed his eyes down her body.Tall for a female of this era, she had plenty of curves, yet also possessed an athletic build.

“What will you do to me?”the cambion asked. She was wise not to trust a being like him.He knew she’d seen his memories. Her power still lingered in his mind.

“I just need to touch you and scan your soul,” Amaros said soothingly.

“Oh, is that all?”she said and rolled her eyes.“Sure, why not?I’ll just let the angel rummage around in my soul. What could possibly go wrong?”

Wind swirled around them, making them both shiver.Tendrils of her hair wavered in the air, reminding him of how Fate’s locks obeyed her commands.“I’m not an angel and I won’t hurt you,” Amaros vowed. He mentally added a caveat that he wouldn’t hurt her right now, at least.

Zoe stared into his eyes as if seeking reassurance, then gingerly reached out and placed her hand on his palm. They both felt an instant connection.Heat shot through them and their eyes became locked. The bond Fate had spoken of was right there, demanding they accept it and become entwined forever.

Amaros’ body reacted to the temptation before him.He could sense the power beckoning to them both.If they accepted the bond, he would become stronger than ever before.Zoe’s power would also be boosted. They would be unstoppable and their foes would cower in fear and fall before their might.

Zoe fought against the compulsion to let the knight into her mind.Lowering her eyes, she stiffened and tried to yank her hand back. His fingers closed around hers, refusing to allow her to escape.Even without a bond, he sensed her shock and unease.“What’s wrong?”he asked.

“Your dong is huge,” she said in amazement, staring down at his now erect manhood.“I didn’t know they could get that big,” she added, apparently unable to look away.“Is that normal?”she asked, finally managing to meet his eyes again.

Embarrassment wasn’t an emotion Amaros was used to feeling.Seeing the honest confusion in her eyes, his scan of her soul was a mere formality. His power swept through her, seeing she’d led a mostly chaste and innocent life. Her only real fault was the simmering temper she kept banked. That was probably courtesy of her sire, one of his ancient foes.

“There is no normal when it comes to the size of a man’s...dong,” Amaros said with as much dignity as he could muster.“Everyone is different in the same way that breast size is different for women.”His gaze slid down to her chest. The corners of his lips lifted with the barest hint of appreciation.

This time, Zoe succeeded in yanking her hand free. She crossed her arms over her chest and gave him a frosty glare.“What are you if you’re not an angel?”she demanded.“You have a tattoo of angel wings on your shoulder.”

Amaros glanced at the mark all Knights of Order carried. His was different to the others to denote him as being their commander. The wings on his tattoo were lowered and pointed downwards, curving around a sword. His teams’ wings were more stylized and were spread out to either side of their swords. Each one differed slightly, but they all possessed a mark.“Angels and demons don’t exist in this dimension,” Amaros said, taking a step back.He needed to distance himself from her so the bond would stop trying to entice him.

“Is that thing going to stay like that for much longer?”Zoe asked, pointing at his erection without looking at it.

The warrior heaved a sigh, wondering why his cambion had to be barely more than a child rather than a mature woman. He instantly winced at mentally naming her as his. They barely knew each other and it was far too soon to decide their fates.“How old are you?”he asked, shielding his erection with his hands so he wouldn’t offend her delicate sensibilities.

“I can still see it,” the girl said when she glanced downward.“The top three inches are still showing.”Her blush increased and she turned around, putting her back to him.“I’m twenty-five,” she added, belatedly answering his question.

That would have been considered middle-aged long in the past.In this era, it was considered fairly young. She was an adult, which was a relief.“Take me to your home,” he ordered.“We need to talk.”

“You need to find some pants,” Zoe muttered, unaware that he had excellent hearing.“How am I supposed to concentrate with that trouser monster waving around?”

Amaros held in his snort of laughter as he rounded to the other side of the car.Fate had infused him with all of the necessary knowledge for him to exist in this time.It would have been impossible to know what she was talking about otherwise.Opening the back door, he grabbed Zoe’s coat before getting into the front passenger seat.

“Great,” the cambion said with heavy sarcasm.“Now I’ll have to burn my coat.I can’t wear if after your dong has touched it.”

“I’m not diseased,” Amaros said in affront as he folded the coat over his lap.

“It’s the principle that counts,” Zoe said primly.“What will my mom say when she finds out a strange man...”her complaint trailed off when reality hit her again.

“I’m sorry your mother is gone,” the warrior said as she began to cry again.

“Everyone I know and cared about is gone,” she said, bravely refusing to succumb to sobs.He fished a tissue out of the pocket of her coat and handed it to her.

“Only some humans were chosen,” Amaros said.“There are still plenty of them left.”

Zoe wiped her eyes, then nodded in agreement.“Now that I think about it, a lot of people were missing from the church.I guess half the town were only pretending to be pious.”
