Page 68 of A Chance at Redemption for the Alpha
“Well, certainly not with words,” I chuckle. “But I don’t mind. You are honest without being hurtful, and you are genuine. I appreciate that.”
“Marcellus.” Silas rests his palm against my chest. “I want to ask you something. But you need to promise not to get mad.”
I scrunch my nose. “That’s an awful opening to a talk and not a fair one.”
“I know, but please promise.”
I sigh. “Alright.”
“Did you ever regret being mated to a man?” Silas asks.
“Where is that coming from all of a sudden?” I ask, surprised.
“It’s just something I’ve been wondering about,” he admits. “You can be honest. I can handle some honesty. So, did you ever regret it?”
“No, never,” I say.
“But won’t you miss lying with a woman?”
I stare at him and sigh. “Silas-“
“Allow me to be insecure, too, at times,” he says. “So?”
“No, I don’t miss it,” I say. “You know I am bi, I’ve always been. Actually, I knew it when I was a teen. I don’t have a preference for any gender. You are my mate, and it’s honestly as intense as they always say. You are all I need and all I want.”
“I can’t give you children,” he says quietly. “And I know werewolves, alphas in particular, are very much about heirs and family.”
So that’s what he is truly worrying about. I figured it had to be more than just my sexuality.
“By now, you should know I am not a usual alpha,” I say. “Do I want children? Yes, one day I want them, but we can adopt. If I have learned one thing in my life, it’s that I don’t need to be related to someone to see them as family.”
“Same sex couples within the vampires sometimes hire a surrogate,” he says more to himself than to me.
“That’s unusual for wolves,” I admit. “But why not? See? We have options. But whatever is going to happen, I want it to, with you. Amos loves you, too, you know?”
“Although he has no wolf counterpart as his mate?” Silas asks.
“He doesn’t mind. He can take over my body whenever he wants to be with you, and he knows you accept the both of us.”
“I love both of you,” Silas clarifies. “Shifters and their mates… It’s truly a peculiar concept.” He sits up and stretches. “Too many feelings for one talk,” he states.
I laugh. “You started it.”
Silas grumbles slightly, clearly because he has nothing to retort. Then, however, he stills, tilting his head. “Oh, damn it!”
“What?”
“I can feel Alex and Durant’s presence. I can’t believe they have to interrupt at a time like this.” He looks kind of adorable when he is annoyed, at least when I am not the reason for his annoyance.
Well, it’s still early anyway, so we both get up, take a swift shower before Silas leaves to meet with his brothers.
Meanwhile, I decide to get some paperwork done. I am not really the office type, and absolutely loathe doing that stuff, but someone has to do it, and I can’t shove everything off to Silas all the time. Fortunately, Micah is kind enough to help me.
It’s a boring, uneventful late afternoon, until I feel a shiver going down my spine like there is a cold breeze coming towards me. “Is the window open? It’s a bit chilly.”
Micah blinks. “What? Yes, but it’s not really cold outside.”
Goosebumps start to appear on my forearm, making me stare down at them in confusion. Am I getting sick? That would be weird. Usually, Amos fights off most illnesses that come toward us. Another shiver goes down my spine, making me get up from my desk.
