However, just when everything in her life seems to rebuild, unexpected tragedy strikes—tearing the only reality she has ever known apart. High General Emyr is known across Celestae for his dark reputation as lead enforcer for the wicked King Tiernan. When Emyr is forced to summon Maeva to the Palace of Nightmares, the two find themselves as unlikely allies—especially when the king sends them on a perilous quest to find the Crógemma, an ancient artifact that only Maeva can retrieve. The king promises Maeva that if she succeeds, he will grant her what she desires most in the world.
