Story: The Strategist

Because you also looked into him.

But my information was just stuff splashed on the internet. The information he retrieved was confidential.

I had a feeling it was going to be a long night of talking. But that would be okay because I wasn’t going anywhere. I could sleep in tomorrow.

Crap.I only had the clothes on my back.

I looked up at him with embarrassment. “Do you have anything I can change into?”

“My T-shirt, sweatpants, and sweatshirt are on the chair in my bedroom for you.”

I gaped at him. “How did you know I’d ask?”

He tapped his forehead. “Because it’s logical. You’re staying here for the next two days. You didn’t bring clothes, so you need them. You also need a toothbrush, which I have.”

I supposed a billionaire who ran a successful empire had to think ahead and anticipate his next step.

“You had a strategy with me, didn’t you?”

He smirked. “Of course. Things worth having require strategy, patience, and the ability to pivot when necessary.”

When we finished eating, I changed into his clothes, which were loose on me. I rolled up the sweatpants, and the T-shirt fell below my knees, as did the sweatshirt.

“You look cute. Come here.” He opened his arms to me.

I sat down on his lap. “I have three questions for you.”

“Hit me.”

“How didyou know I went for a walk that morning? I know you have access to the apartment building, but I wasn’t anywhere close to it.”

He told me what I’d already assumed. He had hacked into the city cameras.

“You broke the law.”

“It’s research, and no one got hurt.” He pulled me closer. “Don’t tell me you haven’t broken the law either.”

“Is there a person who hasn’t broken some kind of law?”

Amusement gleamed in his eyes. “Wanna tell me what law you broke?”

“No. We’re focused on you right now. So you created a scenario to walk with me in the early chilly morning?”

“Yes. Since you didn’t want to date me, Ihadto create ‘fated’ moments for us to meet.”

No man had gone through this much to be with me.

“Did you buy the building before we met?”

He smirked, and I knew the answer.

“Arrow, do you go around buying properties for no reason? Isn’t that wasting money?”

“It wasn’t for no reason. I wasinvestingin the prime retail location and in you.”
