Story: The Strategist

“Oh. I remember her now. They didn’t last long. She seemed more into him than he was into her,” Kiera said. “He’s never brought her to any of our get-togethers.”

“Never?” Curiosity sparked in me.

Audri shook her head. “Nope, but I don’t know why.”

“We have a close-knit group.” Kiera stretched out her legs. “Maybe he’s being extremely selective about who he shows off?”

“I was seeing someone on a dating app too,” I blurted out.

“What?” Audri and Kiera’s eyes went wide as I told them the story.

CHAPTERTWENTY

ARROW

When I foundout that Vivian was just a few rooms away from where I was, I wanted to rush over and demand why she was ignoring me. If I had done something wrong, I needed to know.

But I had a few things to discuss with Remi and Forrest first. The other guys could catch up later when they returned.

“Did you hear about the deceased body of a little girl from the other day?”

Remi nodded. “It has to be The Trogyn.”

“Or their enemies.” Forrest raked a hand through his dark brown hair. The energy around him was lighter and more joyful these days. Probably because of his engagement with Kiera.

“My thoughts exactly,” I said. “Maybe someone is trying to give us a message? A clue to something?”

“It could also be a trap.” Remi sipped his wine.

I was going to tell them that Vivian was also looking for a little girl, but I held back. What if this information wasn’t disclosed to everyone yet? It was her story, her business to tell.

“Sex trafficking and human trafficking are huge money makers for The Trogyn.” I reached for a shrimp dumpling from the appetizer tray and popped it into my mouth.

“And they’re pissed that someone is making them lose money.” Forrest downed the wine. “I’m surprised they haven’t retaliated yet.”

“They will once they find out who we are.”

Ice formed in my stomach as I thought of the potential violence they could cause.

Remi turned to me. “Are you all set for your Monaco trip?”

“Yeah. There’s nothing else for me to do but show up. Do you remember a tall guy with dark hair wearing an expensive gray suit at the wine expo?”

Remi furrowed his eyebrows. “None stood out to me. Why?”

“I saw him at the scene where the little girl’s body was found.” I folded my arms across my chest. “He was among the crowd of spectators. Could’ve been a coincidence.”

“Maybe.” Forrest danced his fingers on his wineglass. “But we all know there’s no such thing as a coincidence. Have the PI look into him.”

I had planned to, but I didn’t want to add more to his plate. His priority was finding Aimee for me.

“Have you guys heard from Slash?” Forrest asked.

“He’s working on something and will reach out to us soon. But he’s also trying to spend more time with his wife.”

Slash was a former member of The Trogyn and the man who gave us a second chance to live. He’d been working behind the scenes with us to get us info on the crime organization.

A burst of laughter erupted in the hallway.
