Story: The Strategist

Arrow:We’re not in a relationship.

Sylvia:I can wait.

Arrow:I’m seeing someone.

Like I told you last time.

Sylvia:Does she suck your cock the way I do?

She got this way when she was drunk.

Arrow:Are you drunk?

Sylvia:No. Two bottles of your wine don’t do shit to me.

Christ.

Sylvia:I’m touching myself while I think of you, handsome. (tongue emoji)

Arrow:Stop drinking. Gotta go.

Sylvia:I want your cock in me right now!

A series of explicit demands followed, and I blocked her.

“What’s wrong?” Vivian asked. “Why are you staring at your phone?”

I raked a hand through my hair, trying to shrug off the ridiculous conversation with Sylvia. I had no idea why I’d dated her.

“Nothing important. There’s a blizzard slamming into Providence for the next forty-eight hours. Snow total is expected to be somewhere near two feet.”

“What?” She shot up on the couch, the blanket and throw falling off her, revealing her naked body to me.

She glanced down, gasped, grabbed her clothes, and shoved them on quickly. “I need to leavenow. Kaylee needs me.”

I wasn’t going to let her leave. If she had to, I’d do it with her. “Is she at home?” I asked.

“She’s sleeping over at her friend’s, who lives one floor below us.”

“With Violet?”

Vivian nodded.

“Then you can call or text her. Let her know you’re stuck at my place. Tell her to stay at Violet’s.”

“I can’t do that—put Kaylee’s life in someone else’s hands.”

I grinned at her protectiveness. “Aren’t Violet and Kaylee good friends?”

“How do you know?”

“Because I run Whiz Kidz, remember? They’re both in the program. Call Violet’s mom. I’m sure she’d understand.” I came over to sit next to her. “Besides, the city is shut down. Only essential workers may travel.”

“I can’t believe this. The meteorologist was wrong.”

“That’s one occupation where you can be wrong many times and still keep your job.”

A small smile emerged on her lips, and she sighed. “I need to see.” She walked over to the sliding door. “Wow. If I had known there would be a blizzard, I wouldn’t be here.”
