Story: Tempted By Poison
Victor raises his hands on both sides. “Whoa, whoa, Alvarez, it was business. But how’s your friend?” he asks as if he's really concerned, but it doesn't match his creepy smile. Pain and bubbling anger knots in my stomach. He snaps his fingers. “Oh wait, that's right. I shot him in the head after he stabbed one of my men. Then I stabbed him a couple of times after he was already a corpse. I mean, that shit was the most brutal thing I’ve ever done.” He leans back, kicking his feet up. “Fucking classic, right?” The gesture postured in a way that a child does when they’ve gotten their favorite blanket. “But then I was so lost in that shit, I didn't realize you had untied yourself.” An exasperated sigh with a shake of his head as he pondered on it.
My head goes lightheaded, a brick forming in my throat, a burn rising in the back of my eyes at his aloofness. It’s as if he took my bleeding heart from my chest and stomped on it over and over again.
I feel sick.
I look over at Ronan, the blood draining from his face and his body is as rigid as if he were frozen in an iceberg.
Victor stands up walking around his desk, pouring brown liquid into the glass that's resting on top of the papers. “That was my first‘snatch and grab’job. I’ve never kidnapped someone before, let alone two. You both broke my virginity. Popped that pretty little cherry.” Then, he eyes me with a slimy grin.
Popped that pretty little cherry. My body is rigid, the words jumbling at the roof of my mouth. “You’re disgusting.” Is all I manage to say. The turbulence rising deep inside, ready to explode and destroy anything in its path. Specifically, Victor.
My brother brought life into our family; he was the sun that shone over the darkest sky. And he had the loudest laugh, so boisterous you could feel an earthquake arising. It was a laugh that madeyoulaugh. My heart sank deeper, my breath escalating.
I breathe harder. “The man you speak of. Who you brutally killed,” I say shakily.
His brows rise, piquing his interest.
Everything in my body trembles violently. I remove my mask, throwing it to the side. Revealing my face.
“He was my brother.”
Chapter 7
Poison
Scars on top of scars.
I’ve been waiting forthis moment for years. I never imagined the day would come that I would be deflecting his death. Putting my vengeance on the back burner was never an option. It was top priority, by any means necessary. But something that Anita said rang in my ears like an alarm clock. He’s a tricky son a bitch, and I know he’s up to something.
I will find out. Right before I kill him.
Victor becomes even more amused at Anita’s reveal. Not giving a fuck as he basks in our pain. I look over my shoulder at her slowly, the rage is boiling in her like a pot of water, the grip on her dagger so tight I’m sure she’s broken through the skin.
Fuck.
Would it be so bad to knock him off right now? Then take him back to the lair I have ducked off secretly here in London.
