Page 107 of Making It Up
He gives my ass a little tap, then slips out. “You tell me if and when you are. But there’s a lot between this and that.”
I realize I love that he knows about my writing. He’s actually had a deep look into my fantasies, and it seems he’s a fan.
He pulls off the condom and ties the end, tossing it into the bucket with the used sparklers, then reaches for my dress. He turns me to face him, pulling my dress over my head and smoothing it over my body.
“Panties?” I ask.
“What panties?”
“My panties. The ones you have in your back pocket.” I saw him grab them from the grass and tuck them in his jeans pocket.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Got it. He’s keeping my panties. I like that.
“Well, I have to thank you,” I tell him.
He chuckles. “You do not have to thank me. I had a very good time too.”
I laugh. “Not that. I can publish the last half of the scene still tonight.”
“People are going to love that she’s taking more control.” He pauses. “I think it’s going to be obvious to everyone that he’s really falling for her.”
My heart flips over. I try not to overreact. Maybe David doesn’t realize that I’ve put a lot of us into those characters. I started writing their story before David rescued me from the tornado but since then, as they’ve gotten to know each other better, they’ve taken on the characteristics of each of us and yeah, okay in my mind it’s becoming more fanfiction about us than about the book series it started from. “You think so?”
He cups my cheek, his thumb running along my jaw. “Yeah.”
Oh, God. Something in his eyes tells me he definitely realizes those characters are him and me.
I’m about two seconds away from telling him I love him. I need to get my shit together.
“Thanks for coming out to check on the fireworks for Judy,” I tell him. “But I hope you’re not this nice to all the people you apprehend. This isn’t your typical way of distracting people from their bad behavior, is it?”
He laughs. “I’d have quite the reputation.”
“Women would be camping illegally and burning shit down all over this county,” I agree.
“Well…thanks,” he says with a wink. “And you haven’t even tasted my waffles yet.”
“Waffles?”
“Tomorrow’s breakfast. But tonight, I’ll make you a snack after.”
I grin. “After what?”
“After we burn a bunch more calories.”
Yes, please.
CHAPTER 21
DAVID
If the goal was to throw my niece an absolutely crazy, over-the-top, packed-with-people birthday party, we succeeded.
If the goal was to prove that a bunch of pink decorations, giggles, make up, and hair accessories would keep me from thinking about laying Mia Hansen out on my mother‘s picnic table, and covering her with the pink icing and sprinkles from the cupcakes before licking her clean from head to toe, I am completely failing.
I don’t need to worry about thinking about all of the things I did to her the other night. My mind is full of a bunch of new things I want to do to her.
