Page 100 of Making It Up
Her sparkler reaches the end and splutters out.
I take it from her fingers and toss it into the bucket on the ground where there are three other burnt-out sparklers along with the remnants of other fireworks.
I look from the fireworks to her. “You really lit fireworks off?”
“A few.”
“I thought you’d just gotten Judy in on this whole ploy to get me out here.”
She grins. “Oh, I did. But I had these fireworks. I thought I might as well actually light them.”
It’s one thing to be attracted to someone, to feel want and desire, to have lusty thoughts. But to look into the big green eyes of a woman who is equal parts sweet and naughty and to have a nearly overpowering urge to see the rainbow nails on your hand that your nieces painted because of her, curved into her hip while fucking her from behind is a shocking thought.
I look down at my hand, though. My nail polish is still intact.
Sloan assured us that the clear protective topcoat she applied would withstand all of our jobs for at least a couple of days. She was right and yeah, I want to see my fucking rainbow nails against Mia Hansen’s creamy skin.
I take a deep breath. “Trespassing. Burning without permission. Riding without a helmet. And you shouldn’t fucking be out here by yourself. What if you get hurt? What if you burn yourself? What if you start a grass fire? What if the four-wheeler breaks down? What if you get stuck?”
She gives me a smile and reaches into the pocket of the bag she has hanging from one of the handlebars. She withdraws a phone and wiggles it at me.
“I got a new phone. And there’s good reception out here.”
Fuck, I want her so much.
I reach up and slide my hand along her bare shoulder, under her hair, to the back of her neck. “What if you hit a rock and the four-wheeler tosses you off and you break your pretty neck?”
She lifts a brow. “Is having someone out here riding with me going to prevent that from happening? How? They’ll catch me before I hit the ground?”
I blow out a breath. That scenario hadn’t actually occurred to me until just now when I saw that she actually has a damned four-wheeler here. And no helmet that I can see.
But now that I am picturing her lying crumpled on the ground, seriously injured, my heart is pounding.
“This is not safe. You at least need a helmet.”
She gives me a smile. “Wow. I was looking forward to four-wheeler sex before, but knowing I’ll need to wear a helmet for it makes me really curious about what it’s like.”
I growl. We’ll discuss lighting fireworks in grassy fields without permits later.
Instead, I pull her forward and lean in at the same time.
Just before I kiss her, I say against her mouth, “Your dad isn’t going to scare me off, Mia.”
CHAPTER 20
MIA
That might be the hottest thing he could’ve said in this moment.
At least combined with the gruff tone in his voice and the way he’s looking at me.
I turn on the four-wheeler to face him. “I’m very?—”
Then he’s cupping my face and says, his voice even huskier, “You up for doing a little extra work?”
My pussy clenches, and if he is not referring to us having sex on this four-wheeler, we are not as on the same page as I’ve been assuming.
“Definitely.”
