"Great, thank you." I stand up. "Well, it was nice to meet you."

"You, too, Mr. Carrington." He grins. "Can't say I meet New York's most eligible bachelor very often."

I groan as I stare at him. "You know about that?"

"Who doesn't know about it?" he says, laughing. "Good for you."

Chapter Twenty-One

Sabrina

Day number three of Operation Getting Kicked Out of Wes's Apartment.

"Oh, my gosh. Thank God that is over," I say to Erica as we grab a sandwich after our last finals.

"How do you think it went?" she says, looking as ravenous as I feel.

"I think I passed," I say, laughing. "So hopefully, that means I'm going to graduate. And finally, we will be working adults with bachelor's degrees and starting our own podcast soon. Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited."

"Me, too."

"How's it going with my brother?" she says softly.

"Ugh, don't ask."

"That well?"

"I mean, to be quite honest, it's fine. He hasn't tried to do anything, and I barely see him. He works so much. Every night, he wants to do this thing where we ask each other questions sowe can get to know each other better. And I mean, it's fine. I just don't understand why he's doing it."

"Oh, like what sort of questions?"

"Like he asked me what animal I would be if I could be an animal."

"Oh, what did you say?"

"I said a dog, because everyone loves them."

"What did he say?"

"He said a bear."

"Oh, because he's so big, strong, and ferocious?" she says, rolling her eyes.

"Something like that," I say, laughing. Even though I'm making fun of our little getting to know each other's sessions, I am quite enjoying it, but I'm not going to tell Erica that. It feels weird to let her know just how much I really care about her brother, especially seeing as I'm trying to get kicked out of his apartment and the relationship isn't actually going anywhere. And I don't really want her to know that I'm upset that he hasn't made a move. I'm happy that he's just giving me a kiss on the cheek each night, but I thought he would try to slip a hand in somewhere or do something or touch me or want to be with me. But it's not even like I have to turn him down because he's not even interested.

"Well, do you want to go to a movie to celebrate this afternoon?"

"Oh, thanks. I actually can't. I have to go see my mom," I say quickly, which is technically true. I am going to see my mom, but first, I have to go to a pawn shop. I'm going to sell my locket. They’ve offered me $2,000 and were going to give me ninety days to be able to pay back $2,500 before they sell it. I have no idea how I’m going to make $2,500 in ninety days, but that is a problem for another time. Right now, I need the money badly.My mom received an eviction notice, and if the rent wasn't paid, she was going to be out on her rear.

“Oh, okay. Well, tell your mom I said hi. Or actually, I can come with you if you want and say hello. I haven't seen her in a while."

"No," I say quickly. "I just want to chat with her and talk about the situation with your brother so she doesn't get nervous or worried," I say quickly. Even though my mom doesn't even know about the situation, and I have no plans on telling her. I don't need to stress her out or make her feel excited for no reason.

"Oh, okay. Well, maybe next time," Erica says. "I guess I will go to a museum, then." She leans back.

"Oh my gosh, did I tell you that Thunder is really excited about our date? He said his friend Joa is also excited. We just need to figure out a time that's going to work for all of us."
