Page 52 of Grumpy Billionaire Seeking Wife
"Your new wife."
"My new what?" I look over at Sabrina and roll my eyes. I have no idea what's going on. "Who is this?"
"My name is Eugenia, and I'd like to be considered for the position."
"If you're looking for a job, please contact the HR department for Carrington Enterprises.” I hang up and settle back down next to Sabrina. “Some lady trying to be inventive to get a job. She better not call me again, or I'll have to get her blackballed and make sure she never works for me."
"Oh, someone called you about a job?" Sabrina exhales visibly, and I wonder if she's happy and eager to change the subject. Maybe I was bringing up subjects that were making her uncomfortable. Maybe she thought I was going to ask her to move in with me. Which I hadn't been.
"Yeah, I guess people are desperate these days. Trying to do everything to get a job. So, where were we?" I want to talk about us again. Want to ask her on a date. I'm annoyed that I let myself sleep with her before I tried to get to know her on a deeper level. I wanted the relationship to grow and become established before we slept together, but I've already messed that up. My phone starts ringing again, and I frown as I see another unknown number.
"Yes?" I shout into the phone as I answer. I never get unknown calls, and this is really beginning to aggravate me. Sabrina offers me a nervous smile before rolling out of bed and grabbing some clothes. I try to grab her hand, but she shakes her head and points to the clock on her desk.
"Wes Carrington, please." The voice sounds young and giggly.
"Who is this?"
"Gigi."
"How can I help you, Gigi?"
"How young are you open to?" She giggles, and I hear whispering in the background. I strain my ears to see if I can hear what is being said.
"What are you talking about?"
"The position." She giggles. "The one with all the travel to Paris."
"Paris?" I notice Sabrina flinch, and I suddenly remember that at one point in her life, visiting Paris had been at the top of her travel list. I wonder if she is still as obsessed with all things French as she had been as a teen.
"Yeah, I wanna go on a free trip. So, how old do I have to be? I'm seventeen next month."
"Sorry, but I think that the job advertisement has included the wrong phone number. You will have to call HR." I hang up, frustrated, and run my hands through my hair. "Someone in HR is going to be fired," I tell Sabrina, and then my phone rings again. "Hello."
"Is this Mr. Carrington?"
"Yes."
"The grumpy billionaire himself?"
"What?" I clear my throat. "Look, the job advertisement had the wrong number. This is not?—"
"I'm 40-32-46," she says quickly. "Big boobs and big ass." She lowers her voice. "Men say I have hips for pushing out babies, if that's what you're looking for."
"Hips for pushing out what?" My jaw drops, and I put the phone on speakerphone and mute myself. "I think someone is punking me," I say to Sabrina as I point to my phone. "Listen to this."
"To what?" She looks confused.
"My call," I say and then unmute the phone. "Sorry, I think I misheard you."
"I was curious how many kids you want to have."
"What business is that of yours?"
"I mean, if I'm the one pushing the kids out…" The lady on the phone laughs. "I expect push presents, as well. A million per baby. And I don’t want to sign a prenup. I mean, I'm notinterested in you for your money or anything. But I think we should marry for love and trust, don't you?"
"Sorry, who the hell are you?"
"Oh, yes, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Sia, like the singer. You know the one from—wait, what country is she from again?" She pauses. "But she sings that song." And to my shock, the lady on the phone starts singing. I can see Sabrina about to collapse in giggles. "This isn't funny," I whisper at her. "Are we in the Twilight Zone here? What is going on?"
