Pinching my brow, I take a deep breath. “Fine. I can just fight it off.”

They laugh again and I am so tired of all the damn laughing.

“Friend, listen to me when I tell you, you haven’t felt the worse of it. It gets way harder. You are obviously in the beginning stages. By the time I told Chayton what was wrong, I could barely walk. People think being horny is not painful. My clit was so engorged it felt like a headache between my legs.”

“She’s not lying,” Phaedra says. “Aurin was away for nearly two weeks when I went into my first heat. By the time he came back, I was bedridden, covered in sweat, and could barely stand.”

All of this sounded like the worse kind of torture. Who the hell signs up for this bullshit?

“Okay,” I say, starting to think rationally. “Say I cave, we fuck once, and then all this goes away, right?”

They look at each other and then laugh again.

“It took Chayton a week to fuck the heat away.”

“Five days the first time Alarick sent me into heat,” the witch adds.

“Same,” Phaedra says to the witch. “Although, I have heard stories of it taking a wolf's mate a month to clear his mate’s heat.”

“A fucking month?” I shout.

They cackle in laugher. I didn’t have time to be stuck in bed for days or a week. Ugh! This is insane.

“Oh, come on,” Phaedra chuckles. “My brother can’t be that bad in bed.”

“There are a bunch of she-wolves in this pack that would beg to differ,” Rue says.

The sudden feeling of jealousy hits me out of nowhere. I wanted to kill her and any other female around here that has touched the Beta. I try to shake the sudden emotion away. There was no place for those feelings.

“What’s wrong?”his voice in my head has my stupid heart racing.“There is a static in the link. Something is wrong?”

“You are what’s wrong,”I grumble.“You and your stupid wolf.”

There is a pause from him and then a chuckle so low that it vibrates through my body. Immediately, I’m consumed by heat. I can almost feel a pulse between my legs beating rapidly. I groan and shut down the connection.

I wasn’t expecting the way Rue’s comment made me feel. But who could blame me? Even though I was out of my mind that night I mated with the Beta, I remember how well he dicked me down. I always thought Markis was huge, but Enzo had girth and length, and he knew how to use them. And let’s not forget his tongue. The memory of that night has this heat thing rearing up again. The throbbing between my legs just intensified.

“Hey, I’m getting a lot of mixed emotions from you. I can’t concentrate,”Enzo says into my head.

I hate this mating thing.

“I’m fine,”I nearly snarl through the link.“Stay out of my head.”I shove him out and tune back into the room.

“His sex isn’t the issue,” I finally say to the ladies.

“Then what is it?” Liz asks, her brow pinching.

“This mating thing is already complicated. Just a few short weeks ago, the Beta hated me. And we’ve been doing well lately. I feel like adding sex this soon will make things more difficult. We are not ready for this step.”

Phaedra grins, placing a hand on my shoulder. “I promise you, if Enzo is trying to make your mating work, then he is ready. Plus, it doesn’t really matter. His wolf has already spoken. You might as well enjoy this heat cycle.”

The women go back to cleaning the dining hall. My mind races as I think about the she-wolves’ words. It seems like this heat thing is going to happen rather I like it or not, I might as well prepare for it.

Walking over to Liz, I run a hand over my curls.

“Okay, I need a favor.”
