Nadia’s eyes widen so wide they look as if they may pop out of their sockets. She swings her head to me.

“How are you doing this?”

“That should be the least of your concerns, wolf. Be very mindful of how you talk about my best friend. There are a lot of things I let slide with you wolves, but any disrespect to Elizabeth will make me slaughter you, your brother, and your grandparents.”

“You wouldn’t dare?”she snarls.

I place an image in her head. Her brother’s butchered body lay in a pile on top of her grandparents. She gasps.

I smirk. “Try me.”

The poor girl jumps to her feet so quick you would’ve thought the chair bit her ass. She storms out of the dining hall without another word.

“What the hell was that about?” Phaedra asks when the she-wolf is gone.

I shrug. “Maybe she had somewhere else to be.”

The room goes back to talking about the baby. I scan the crowd until I connect gazes with the witch. She grins before turning away from me. I guess she knows what I did.

After another hour of games and food, the party was over. Me, Rue, Phaedra, Liz, and the witch were all left behind to clean.

I stop and take a deep breath. For some reason I’ve been having hot flashes. They seem to get worse whenever I’m near Enzo. But even when we are apart, I get these waves of heat burning through my veins.

“Are you okay?” Liz asks, stopping beside me.

Looking over at her and then to the other ladies that are busy cleaning up the mess, I make sure no one is paying attention.

“I’ve been having some issues recently.” I quickly run down my symptoms to Liz.

When I’m finished, she gasps, placing her hands over her mouth.

“What?” I ask, concerned.

“Oh, my goodness,” she laughs. “His wolf is sending you into heat.”

This gets the attention of all the other females. They gather around me like I have some great story to tell.

“That’s incredible,” Phaedra sings.

“I didn’t think he’d be able to do it since you’re a vampire,” Rue says.

“What the hell is it?” I ask.

“It’s like a forced ovulation cycle,” Phaedra explains. “His wolf is trying to get you pregnant.”

The women around me laugh. However, sharp pain hits my chest. I fight away any reaction to the feeling.

“Okay. How do I stop it? Is there like a pill or something?”

They all burst out laughing. I’m not finding the humor in any of this.

“Sex,” Liz says. “Lots of sex.”

Uh no. That is not an option.

“There has to be another way?” I say to Phaedra. She’s the wolf doctor, she has to have some type of remedy for this bullshit.

She shakes her head. “Nope, the only way to relieve the heat ache is by letting your mate sate you.”
