“True. I couldn’t imagine not having Zoey or you.”
“Exactly. We might never have met or you wouldn’t have the sweetest girl in the world.” I covered my mouth as I let out a loud yawn. “I’m sorry.”
He laid a gentle kiss on my lips. “Thank you for sharing all of that with me.”
“I’m glad I did. I feel lighter having told you.” And surprisingly, I did.
We snuggled under the covers, and Beckett spooned me from behind. I wiggled, trying to get comfortable. When he groaned and flexed his hips, his dick pressed into my butt. I reached back and lightly caressed his quickly hardening cock.
He groaned. “You need to rest.”
“We can rest later.” I turned over in his arms and licked at his nipple.
His groan only encouraged me to pleasure him more. And if I had my way, we wouldn’t go to sleep for a long time.
Chapter Twenty-One
WREN
It had been almost a week since Beckett and I decided to make us official. The only ones even aware of this status change were Grayson and Ruby. Our two best friends were kind enough to have Zoey sleep over last night and were bringing her home this afternoon.
We’d spent every second we could find together. On the days that Lila could stay late, we’d grab takeout and go to my place, and each night he’d leave early enough to spend time with Zoey and put her to bed. My heart hurt that I couldn’t be there with them.
Beckett’s long legs stretched out on the L-shaped part of the couch. I tucked myself into the corner of the sectional with my legs draped over his lap. “This weekend has gone by too fast.” I tossed a piece of popcorn for him to catch in his mouth.
He missed.
“Good thing you’re pretty because you’d never make it as a popcorn-catching champ.”
A loud laugh burst out of him. I loved hearing that sound more than anything.
“I heard from the ice sculpture guy and he said the ideal temperature would be 5 to 12 degrees, and since the weather can vary in December, he doesn’t think it’ll work.”
“Oh that’s too bad. That would have been such acoolpresentation.”
He groaned. “I thought I was the one who was supposed to make bad dad jokes.”
I laughed. Of all the things I imagined Beckett doing, making dad jokes was the sweetest.
“The large tent with the sides is a go and the rental company had plenty of tables and chairs for us.” We’d decided to create a space called the Elves Workshop.
“Perfect. Many of the local craft stores were able to donate supplies, and Mia’s friends agreed to help out. A few will work in the tent, directing families, and the others will be in Santa’s house.” I still had a hard time believing how well it was all coming together.
“We make a good team, Winter.” He leaned in to peck my lips.
“The best.” I was pretty sure a sappy grin filled my face. The only thing that would make today even more perfect was if Zoey was here.
“Hey.” He caught my hand. “Come with us to pick out a Christmas tree tonight.”
“Where were you planning to go?”
“Rossi’s on Phenix Ave.” He massaged my palm and then worked his way down each finger.
“Beckett, I don’t know.”
He didn’t say anything, but I could tell by the set of his shoulders that he wasn’t happy with my hesitation.
“I want to.” Times like this really sucked.
