Three Years Later
“Is it just me, or does this place feel different?” Jace asks as we walk through one of the quads near Hamilton House.
“Different?” Jax asks, shooting his brother some side-eye.
“Yeah, like when you go back to your old elementary school and all the desks are so tiny you can’t even squeeze into one anymore, or the sinks are so low they’re down around your knees.
” He tosses us a grin. “But when you were there, everything seemed so big, and you didn’t realize how small and insignificant you were. ”
Jax snorts out a laugh. “Someone’s feeling introspective.”
“Not really.” Jace grins. “Just realizing how much I’ve grown since we graduated.”
It’s my turn to shoot Jace some side-eye. “We graduated last year,” I point out.
“Yeah, and I’ve grown a ton in that time.” He offers me a shrewd look. “You haven’t?”
I roll my eyes and glance at Jax. “Have you noticed this growth he’s talking about?”
“Must be some hidden growth that no one but him can see,” Jax deadpans.
“You wound me.” Jace pretends to look offended. “After all the soul searching I’ve done, all the self-reflection and time and effort I’ve put into improving myself.” He clucks his tongue disapprovingly.
“We see you every day,” I point out as we head down the path that will take us to the main gate. “Pretty sure we would have noticed if any of that was going on.”
Jace smirks. “You might have noticed if you didn’t spend all your time on your damn phone sexting with Felix.”
“Don’t forget the video calls, voicemails, voice notes, emails, and phone calls,” Jax says helpfully.
“And all the holidays spent holed up in their rooms and making the walls shake,” Jace adds. “Plus the weekend trips to campus.”
“And the clone-a-willy he sent him.” Jax elbows me in the side. “Remember when we found out you made a clone of your dick and sent it to Felix? That was a mistake.”
“Letting us find out about it was the mistake, not sending your guy a dick clone dildo.” Jace pats my shoulder condescendingly.
“I hate both of you,” I grumble.
“I swear at one point he was researching how he could ship himself to campus in a box so he could jump out in a thong and yell ‘surprise’ when Felix opened it,” Jace says with a grin, ignoring me.
“Are you about done?” I ask as we stop at the main gate to Hamilton House.
“For now,” Jax says.
“Maybe.” Jace winks.
I roll my eyes and tap my alumni card against the sensor. When it clicks and flashes green, I walk through the gate and wait for the twins to do the same.
It’s graduation day, or rather, convocation day, at Silvercrest, and Felix is going to be walking the stage in just under six hours.
We might have only graduated a year ago, but Jace wasn’t wrong when he said it feels different to be back on campus. It’s not so much feeling too big for the space or like we’ve grown at all; it’s just weird to be walking these paths and stepping through the gate again.
We spent four years here, and this campus felt like our entire world. Then we graduated and started working for our dads’ business, and our world got a hell of a lot bigger in an instant.
Jace secured a place in the IT department, and he helps run the company’s cybersecurity.
Jax is currently working under my dad and is learning the ins and outs of the import/export aspect of the business, including the not-so-aboveboard importing and exporting we do.
I’m currently working under the twins’ dad on the finance side and learning the ropes from him.
We all like our jobs, and they’re exactly the positions we always knew we’d be given, but our dads don’t go easy on us, and we’ve been working our asses off to prove ourselves.
And we’re not the only ones who’ve been busting our asses.
We might have spent the last year in suits and attending business meetings, but Felix has been finishing up his last year at Silvercrest, and because he’s a nerd who loves to learn, he’s graduating with a double major, so his last year was as busy as mine.
We made it work, but I can’t fucking wait until he’s out of here and we can finally start our lives together.
Being long-distance wasn’t fun, but it was worth every second, even with the twins being their usual insufferable assholes and teasing us about absolutely everything they could.
Now we’ll finally get to live together again, and I know Felix is as eager as me because as much as I’ve gotten used to sleeping alone, I always sleep better when I have Felix wrapped up in my arms.
Hamilton House, the same as the rest of campus, looks exactly the same as we make our way to the main door, and I get the weirdest sense of déjà vu as I tap my alumni card and push the door open.
“This is weird,” Jace says as we walk through the familiar lobby.
“Yeah,” I agree.
We don’t talk as we take the stairs up to the top floor, and the twins fall into step behind me as I push the door to their old room, which is now Felix’s room.
He’s standing in front of his wardrobe, his gown on and his cap and sash in his hands as he checks out his reflection.
After the leadership found out about us dating—and his uncle trying to off him—they granted Felix special status.
He’s not an official member of the Rebels, so he’s not privy to Rebel business and doesn’t have the same responsibilities as the other members in the house, but he was allowed to keep living here until he graduated and given all the protections that come with a full membership thanks to my dad and uncles pulling some strings behind the scenes.
Knowing that he wasn’t just on campus but also under the protection of the Rebels is the only reason I didn’t spend the last year freaking out about him being out of my sight.
There might not be any more threats from his uncle, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of danger, considering he’s the sole heir to a multi-billion dollar empire.
And that’s the other reason I can’t wait until he’s out of here. I know he’s safe here, but I don’t like being away from him, or relying on others to keep him safe, any more than he likes being away from me.
Felix turns as I swing the door open, and the big, beaming smile that splits his face when he sees me warms my heart. It doesn’t matter if we’ve been apart for weeks, months, or even hours. His smile is always big and bright and so damn happy every time he sees me.
I grin back at him, and not giving a shit that the twins are going to rib me about this endlessly, I run across the room, too impatient to walk over to him like a normal person.
Felix meets me halfway, his navy-blue robe billowing behind him, and drops both his cap and sash as he throws himself into my arms.
“Oh my god,” he says, his voice muffled. He buries his face in my neck and wraps himself around me like a crazed koala, locking his ankles together under my ass.
I hug him tight and just breathe him in.
He smells like soap and cinnamon with a hint of citrus, and he’s so warm and solid in my arms. His hug is like coming home, and I sink into it, closing my eyes as I let myself get lost in the man who’s had my heart since he moved into my dorm all those years ago.
Felix pulls his face out of my neck, but instead of giving him a chance to speak, I seal my mouth over his and give him a deep kiss. He moans against my lips and clings to me harder.
I have no idea how long we stay like that, just kissing and reacquainting ourselves. It’s been over a month since we’ve seen each other, and I’ve missed the hell out of him.
When we finally tear our mouths apart, we’re both breathing heavily and grinning like morons.
“I missed you.” He pecks another kiss against my lips.
“I missed you too, kitten.”
He wiggles against me and lets out a happy sound.
“Did you miss us too?”
Felix looks over my shoulder, another big grin splitting his lips.
Reluctantly, I let him go so he can rush over to the twins.
“Of course I did,” he says as he throws himself into Jace’s arms.
Jace laughs and gives him a big bear hug.
I bite down my jealousy as Jace lets go of him and Felix practically attacks Jax with a hug. I know there will never be anything between Felix and my cousins, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy seeing my man throwing himself at them.
“I thought you guys weren’t coming in for hours?” Felix looks between us.
“We figured it would be more fun to surprise you.” Jace points at me. “And this one wouldn’t shut the fuck up about coming to see you, so we moved the flight up to shut him the fuck up.”
“Did it work?” Felix tosses me a grin as he rushes back over to my side and wraps his arm around me.
“No,” Jax says.
“Not even a bit.” Jace grins.
“I’m glad you’re here.” Felix rests his head on my shoulder.
“Me too, babe.” I hold him against me and press a kiss against his hair.
“So, how does it feel to be graduating?” Jace asks as he looks around the room.
“A bit surreal,” Felix says. “I’ve been waiting for this day for so long it almost doesn’t feel real.” He gifts me a quick smile. “Or at least it didn’t until you got here.”
I peck a kiss against his lips.
“I’d say get a room, but we’re already in your room,” Jax muses.
“You could always get the fuck out for a bit,” I tell them pointedly.
“Why would we leave?” Jace asks innocently. “We just got here.”
“Don’t you want to hang out with your favorite cousins?” Jax adds.
“Of course I do,” Felix says. “But later.”
“You’re really kicking us out of our old room?” Jace puts one hand over his heart. “You wound us.”
“Out.” I point at the door.
“So rude.” Jace clucks his tongue a few times. “Come on, bro. We know when we’re not wanted.”
Jax smirks. “Try not to break the bed again.”
“Shut up.” Felix flushes bright pink. “The bed’s like, a hundred years old. It was totally just time that made the headboard detach like that.”
“And here I thought it was the rounds of enthusiastic boning that sounded like a damn wrestling match.”
“Like either of you are ones to talk.” I shoot them a flat look.
We actually did break one of the beds in the room when I came to visit Felix, and of course it was also one of the weekends that Jax also came back with me, and of course he told Jace all about it.
“We lived in this room for a year and didn’t break the beds,” Jace says with a sly grin.
“Out.” I point at the door and drop my hand from Felix’s waist so I can grip his ass. “Unless you want a show.”
Felix lets out a bark of laughter and elbows me. “Don’t say that, then they’ll actually stay.”
“Tempting.” Jace winks at Felix. “But I think we can find other things to occupy us while you get your freak on.”
Jax smirks. “I know I can.”
“One hour,” I tell them as they head toward the door.
“Enjoy,” Jace sing-songs over his shoulder.
“Try not to bust up any more antique furniture,” Jax adds.
I bite back my retort and wait for them to leave. When the door closes behind them, I pull Felix against me and give him a soft kiss.
“I missed you,” I whisper.
His eyes are shining with love and affection, and my heart squeezes in my chest. “I missed you too.” His smile is gentle. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Good. Now show me how much.” He bumps his hard dick against mine.
I sweep him up in my arms, and he lets out the cutest squeal of surprise as I carry him over to the closest bed.
Three years ago I thought the worst thing that could happen was having Felix move into my dorm room. Turns out it was not only the start of the most real and intense love I’d ever imagined, but also when my life truly began.
What happens when Jax starts watching Myles to make sure he’s not a threat to them, but his new job quickly turns into an obsession?
