Nix blushed and River looked back down to admire their son. “What should we name him?”

“How about Zachary?” River suggested, “Zac for short. I always liked that name.”

Nix nodded in agreement. “Zac it is.”

Nix heard running on the steps, and he turned to the door to see Ryder hurry in. Ryder shook his head in exasperation. “Really, baby bro? Couldn’t wait for me I see,” he teased. “How are the new papa and baby doing?”

“Couldn’t be better,” Nix said.

He looked down lovingly at his mate and son as Ryder came over to the bed and lifted the cover. He grabbed gloves from a bag. “Nix, how would you like to finish this off properly?”

Nix went over to Ryder’s side and cut the cord where he was directed. Then he watched as the afterbirth was delivered. Still, he didn’t take a full breath until Ryder confirmed they were both doing well, then turned to Nix. “You deserve a pat on the back, Nix. You’ve been through a lot over the past couple of months, but you keep on proving that my brother couldn’t be in better hands. Congratulations, you two.” He gave Nix a one-armed hug.

Nix smiled. “Thank you.”

“It’s certainly been a crazy couple of months.” River looked down at their baby boy. “I may never let Nix out of my sight again.”

Nix laughed. He couldn’t imagine being away from his son and mate, but sometimes those things were out of your hands. He just hoped that he wouldn’t have to leave them anytime soon. This was the happiest he’d ever been, and he wouldn’t let anything or anyone take his family away from him.

He never knew what being whole felt like until he’d found his home in River’s arms.
