Page 12 of Whole in His Arms
Nix chuckled even though it sounded strained to him, and then he pushed into River in one smooth glide until he bottomed out inside him. They both moaned, and River wrapped his legs around Phoenix’s waist, keeping him there.
Goddess, the feeling of being joined to his mate in this most primal way would never get old. The way his girth spread River open was pure bliss. Nix finally pulled back, then pushed in again, unerringly hitting his prostate and making River moan in ecstasy.
He closed his eyes as Phoenix began to set a punishing pace, pounding in and out of him. Their moans echoed together in the room, and Nix grunted in his ear, “Mine,” before biting down on his mating scar just as he pushed in one last time and emptied his load into River. His knot ballooned, locking them together and pressing down on his prostate, making River orgasm a second time. His mate flipped them so River lay on top, his arms tightening around him, locking every inch of their sweaty bodies in an embrace.
His eyes fluttered open as Nix ran his hands down his back soothingly.
“I hate that I have to leave you,” Nix said.
“I know, my love. I know.” River moved in and kissed Phoenix sweetly. He refused to worry. They were mates, and they would have one another for a long, long time. This was only a minor hiccup. It would be over soon, and Nix would be back with him where he belonged.
Chapter Four
Nix
Nix stood in the bathroom after his shower and looked at himself in the mirror. It’ll only be a couple of days;he’ll be here when you come back. This isn’t a home you can be sent away from.Likely feeling his agitation through their bond, River walked up behind him and placed a kiss against his bare shoulder. He turned around and wrapped his arms around his mate. “We’re really going through with this, right?” It wasn’t really a question.
River laughed. “Yes. And everything will be okay, you’ll do what you do best, rescuing people, and maybe you’ll get some answers about your past too.” River squeezed his waist. “You know you have questions, and this could be your chance to figure some things out.”
River was being so supportive. It made Nix love him all the more. He leaned in and brushed a sweet kiss on his mate’s lips. “I love you so much,” he whispered.
“And I love you,” River said. “When this is all done, you will be here with me, and we’ll be welcoming our pup into the world.”
“I do love the sound of that.” Nix managed a real smile. There was a knock at the front door, followed by the doorbell ringing and River smiled.
“That must be everyone coming through to see you guys off, so you can’t change your mind now. It’s way too late.” River put his hand on Nix’s shoulder and squeezed it, and Nix smiled. “I’ll go let people in, okay?”
“Thanks, babe!” When it was just him alone, Nix looked back at his reflection and tilted his head. This is like every other job, get in and get out, and then you’ll be home before River’s even close to delivering the baby. With that little pep talk, he went and got ready.
Nix could hear the conversation going on downstairs. It sounded like everyone they’d invited had shown up. Even with it being so last minute. Was that what it felt like being in a pack? Usually, it was just him and his teammates moving from job to job, no place to call home for any length of time.
The moment he walked into the living room, he saw that Ronin, Ollie, Roman, Devon, and even Jax, who wasn’t one to socialize, were there. Even Ryder had shown up, and of course, they all had their kids with them. Maddox, Dax, and Zander were also present since they planned on leaving right after everyone had said their goodbyes.
“Hello, babe.” Unsurprisingly, his mate noticed him first and instantly walked up to Nix.
Everyone turned to him, and Dax walked over and squeezed his shoulder. “Glad to see you’ve decided to come along.”
Nix smiled. “Can’t have you guys fuckin’ shit up without me.”
Dax snorted, punching him playfully. “Keep dreaming, brother.”
River stepped away and clapped to get everyone’s attention. “So who’s ready to eat?”
There was a scattering of yes replies.
“I’ll go grab the snacks from the kitchen,” Nix said to his mate.
“I’ll help.” Ronin said and got to his feet.
He headed to the kitchen with Ronin on his heels and went straight to the fridge to grab the trays of meats and cheeses he’d put together with his mate earlier. There was also a large sub someone must have brought over.
He walked over to the cupboard that held serving trays when Ro spoke. “You don’t need to fret over leaving River.”
Nix glanced in his direction. “I’m not worried. I know he’ll be fine. Why would you think I was worried?”
Ro raised a brow. “I guess we’ve known each other long enough.” Ronin walked over to him and squeezed his shoulder. “River will be in good hands. I’ll be here to make sure of that. Plus, Ollie wants to spend more time with him, and the twins will keep both of them busy.”
Nix leaned back against the counter. He looked into Ro’s eyes and admitted, “It’s just that I hate having to leave him right when we’re going to have a pup of our own.”
