Page 31 of Warrant (The Berserker’s Rage MC: Wyoming Chapter #1)
“I swear I’ll tell you about it, but these people kidnapped Aella and Jared. Took them from their parents. If we let them walk away they’ll come after them again,” I told her.
Indecision and honor warred there in her gaze before she finally pursed her lips, gave me a short nod, then pulled out of my grasp and went down the hallway.
“I can’t believe that worked,” I muttered.
“She knows, deep down, these kids being safe is more important than protocol,” Cypher said, clapping me on my uninjured shoulder. “Pyre should take a look at that.”
I made a face but nodded. I hated letting Pyre get his hands on me. The fucker enjoyed pain and blood too much. Not that he hurt us more than needed when he patched us up. I just wasn’t a fan of being injured. That wasn’t his fault.
“What’s the deal with her?” I asked, nodding at the woman.
“That’s Jared’s mom,” Glitch answered.
“Birth mother,” Riggs growled. “Anna is Jared’s mom.”
“She must have snuck in during all the chaos to try to take Jared,” I muttered, not commenting on Riggs’s statement. He was right. Christina had lost the right to be anything to Jared. Riggs’s old lady was everything to Jared that Christina had never been.
Riggs pulled out his knife, but I took it from him. “Let me. We actually enjoy this part. You don’t seem like the kind to take pleasure out of it.”
He shrugged, but let me take his blade and move forward. “So, who’s the boss here?”
One of the men on the end let his eyes flick to a red head in the group.
“Seriously? The ginger? Who follows a red head? Whatever happened to standards?” Scythe asked with a roll of his eyes.
I moved over to the guy. “Name?”
He scoffed. “Why the fuck would I tell you anything?”
“Like your other men at the barn found out, we’re not above cutting off cocks.”
His eyes widened. “That’s fucking… Jack.”
“What’s the name of your crew, Jack?” I asked.
“Why does it matter?” he sneered.
“I like to know who I’m killing. It’s a thing.”
“Iron Circle,” one of the other men said.
Arching a brow, it was my turn to scoff. “Stupid name.”
“What did you take my children for?” Riggs asked when I took too long to get to the point.
“Jared is my son,” Christina snapped. “I can do whatever I want with him!”
“Not anymore, you stupid cunt,” Steel said, getting in her face. They’d tied everyone up so it wasn’t like she could retaliate. “He belongs to us now.”
She glared at the brothers. “He’ll always be mine.”
“You didn’t want him,” Axel said. “You gave up your rights to him.”
“Why did you take the kids?” Cypher asked, taking over the questioning.
“That little bitch wasn’t supposed to be taken,” she spat out. “This all went downhill because these idiots took her.”
I snorted. “You think we wouldn’t have come after you to get Jared back?” Her eyes met mine. “You might have given birth to him, but you’re not worth shit. You can’t even understand how much we value him, because you don’t care about him at all.”
Glitch moved past me and grabbed a tri-folded letter out of Christina’s jacket pocket. His eyes scanned the paperwork and his frown deepened as he read. “Seriously?” He passed it over to Cypher. “You took these kids for that?”
“For what?” Jared asked as he, Aella, Ainsley, Torque, and the dogs came walking into the living room. “I deserve to know.”
Cypher sighed. “Your grandfather left you an inheritance when he died. Couple million and a house here in Sentinel.”
Jared’s mouth dropped open. “Seriously? I don’t even really remember him much.”
“It’s mine!” Christina shrieked, nearly making my ears bleed. “It was supposed to be mine!”
I looked over at her. “Looks like your father knew what a piece of shit you were.”
That pissed her off. She started struggling against the rope that held her bound.
“Oh knock it off,” I muttered. She wasn’t strong enough to get out of the knot Scythe had tied. “What do you want to do with them?” I asked the group.
Normally that decision would be up to Cypher. But Riggs and Jared had some say in this, too.
“I can take them to jail,” Ainsley offered. There wasn’t much conviction in her tone. The situation was well beyond her control and she knew it.
Jared looked at her. Everyone was staring at him.
Really the question was what he wanted done with his mother.
We already knew what we’d do with the men.
They weren’t going to see the light of day.
But Christina? None of us were keen on killing an unarmed woman.
That was a gray area for us, despite the fact that she’d orchestrated all of this.
“Can I think about it for a minute?” Jared asked, looking first at his dad, then Cypher.
“Sure. Take a few minutes while we load these guys into the SUV,” Cypher told him. He looked over at Ainsley. “This going to be a problem?”
She glared over at me, then focused on him and shook her head.
She didn’t like it, but she was willing to let us deal with the remaining men of the Iron Circle.
Her concession was worse than her arguing.
I was ready for her to argue. I wasn’t ready for this.
If she was giving in to us this easily, what did that mean for her and I?
“I should call this guy out here an ambulance,” Toxic said, sticking his head inside the front door. “Aw man, I missed all the fun?”
Ainsley frowned and hurried out the door toward her injured deputy. If he needed an ambulance, it meant he was alive.
“You going to be able to handle that?” Cypher asked, nodding toward where Ainsley disappeared.
“Yeah, I got her,” I told him. “I’ll make sure she understands.
” It was keeping her from running from me that was going to be the problem.
I was so close to making her mine. I could see the anguish though.
She was compromising all her morals now, everything she stood for.
And at some point that wasn’t going to sit well with her.
Once she realized that, she was going to run.
He chuckled. “Glad you’re dealing with her and not me. Good luck, Brother. Once you’re done get your ass back to the clubhouse and get that shoulder looked at.”
I’d almost forgotten that I’d been shot. Now the ache was setting in. Sighing, I headed outside toward my woman. I had promised her I’d explain. This was going to take a while. At least everyone was safe and the club’s troubles were over. For now.
