Warrant

“ G ot ‘em.”

I raised my head off the table in the main area of our clubhouse and stared at Glitch. Everyone else was doing the same. “Tell me that means you know where they are?”

Riggs stood up and went to stand next to Glitch.

The torture on the poor fucker’s face was hard to see.

He was blaming himself for his kids being snatched.

As if there was anything he could’ve done to stop it.

They hadn’t known there’d been any threat to them.

But I understood why there would be guilt, worry, and grief building inside the man. Those were his children.

They didn’t even belong to me and I was fucking furious that someone had taken them.

Glitch looked up, surprised to be the center of attention, and that Riggs was breathing down the back of his neck.

He scooted his chair away, giving the man an uneasy look.

He hadn’t meant to say those words out loud.

I could tell. He often spoke to himself while he worked, but half the time it was garbled nonsense because he was usually finishing sentences he’d started inside his head.

“I know where they were a few hours ago,” Glitch said. “Warehouse C off Galveston Road.”

Everyone was out of their seats as one, like it’d been rehearsed. A sharp whistle split the air. We turned and stared at Cypher, waiting for his orders.

“Torque, Cynic, Glitch, and Rotor, you’re staying here. Watch the clubhouse,” Cypher called out.

“Oh man,” Torque muttered. He sat back down, then scratched behind Beau’s ears as my hound nudged his hand with his massive head.

“Watch Beau, too,” I added.

“Why’d you even bring him?” Scythe asked with a scowl.

As though Beau knew he was being talked about, he abandoned Torque and planted his ass on Scythe’s boot, staring up at him with total adoration.

Sighing, Scythe reached down and scratched below his chin.

“That’s why,” I said with a chuckle. “He loves you, you fucking grumpy asshole.” And I hadn’t wanted to leave him at home alone, and my brothers and Dad were busy driving the cattle to a new field and couldn’t watch him like they normally did.

“They don’t know we’re on to them yet,” Cynic pointed out, getting everyone back on track.

“Maybe they do, maybe they don’t,” Cypher replied. “Stay here and watch the clubhouse. Watch Glitch’s back while he keeps working.”

“How’d you find them?” Scythe asked, nodding toward our techie.

“Been watching the house the mother’s been staying at,” Glitch replied. “It’s been annoying as fuck, but after five days a guy showed up. Used the street cameras to follow him back to that warehouse.”

“Let’s go,” Cypher said. “You can fill us in on the rest later.”

Demo grabbed a set of keys hanging on a nail by the door.

“I’ll drive the cache.” We had rifles, shotguns, and various other…

tools…in the back of one of our SUVs. They’d been there for days while we waited for the tech twins to find these fuckers.

The fact that it’d taken over a week lent credibility to the theory that they were low level fuck wits who hadn’t planned this out very well.

Ironic really, since you’d think that would make it easier. But in an age of technology being a fuckwit worked in your favor. They hadn’t made demands, hadn’t gone out in public, had no digital footprint… It gave us nothing to go off.

Otherwise our techs would’ve found them a lot faster. But we had a bead on them now. It was time to go fuck shit up. “I’ll ride with you,” I told him.

Demo was quiet for most of the ride over.

It was uncharacteristic for him, but he was ignoring my curious looks.

I didn’t ask, because the huge fucker would talk when he felt like it.

I’d learned long ago not to try to push him before he was ready.

Would be easier to push a mountain than push him when he had his heels dug in.

He was like a goat. Not in size, but in stubbornness.

We were only a few minutes out from the warehouse when he finally spoke. “Tell me this isn’t going to end badly.”

“What do ya mean?” I asked. “We’ve brought enough firepower to take out Wyoming. If I’m right and these assholes are low level, they won’t be much of a challenge for us.”

“I’m not talking about us,” he said, a grim look on his face as he stared out at the road.

He meant the kids. Shit. He was always so happy-go-lucky that I somehow managed to forget the kind of grief he’d lived through. The ghosts that haunted him to this day.

“They’re going to be fine, Demo. We’ll make damn sure of it.”

He gave one sharp nod and the look on his face told me not to bother speaking about it anymore.

He was completely closed off. He had one hell of a war face and was wearing it now.

Gone was the grin he wore like armor. He was ready to rip that warehouse, and anyone inside it who wasn’t a child, apart with his bare hands.

I’d feel sorry for the shitheads inside—except they’d asked for this—because watching Demo come at you was like seeing a silverback gorilla charge. A pissed off silverback. Not the last thing you wanted to see before you died.

We got out of the vehicle and went around to the back. Cypher had already opened the hatch and was handing out rifles. I took an AK, checked the chamber, and accepted the additional magazines he handed out. I stuffed them into the pockets inside my cut and waited for his orders.

He glanced at me. “Take Demo and Jury around to the left.” He motioned to Scythe. “You, Toxic, Butcher, and Axel go to the right. Cover any doors you find. Me, Riggs, Pyre, and Steel will go through the front.”

“Saving all the fun for yourself, Prez?” Jury asked with a grin.

Cypher shrugged. “Pays to be the boss sometimes and I have this burning need to put some lead into some motherfuckers.”

His words had us all wearing grim smirks. The assholes inside had no idea what was coming for them.

“Let’s go,” I said to Demo and Jury and we all jogged off to the left side of the building. As soon as we rounded the corner there were two doors at the front and the back of the warehouse. “You two go through this one,” I said, pointing at the first door. “I’ll take the back.”

They eyed each other, but then nodded. I knew they didn’t want me to go alone, but they knew as well as I did as soon as our club started infiltrating this building the shitbags inside would be on full alert and might try to bolt. We needed someone going through every door to prevent that.

I ran over to the end of the building, glancing back and found them waiting for me. At my nod, Demo opened the door and entered with his rifle ready. Grabbing the handle, I did the same.

Squinting, I tried to get my eyes to adjust to the low light inside. There was a single bulb swinging from a cord from the ceiling back here, but it barely made a dent in the gloom. A shuffling sound had me freezing just a few feet from the door.

The area was sectioned off with ratty curtains, making a large square. There wasn’t much time to investigate however, because movement had me swinging the barrel of my rifle toward a dark corner.

“You the father?”

The deep voice had me squeezing my rifle harder, but I didn’t shoot. “Uncle,” I replied. Friend of the family didn’t have the same ring and by the time this was all over we were all going to consider these kids family. Already did if I was being honest.

The man stepped forward until the faint light showed that he had his hands up, and that they were empty. “No one’s here except me and the little bear.” He nodded toward another corner.

Narrowing my eyes on him, I took the chance and let my gaze snap over to the spot he’d motioned to. There, on a grubby mattress with a moth eaten blanket over her, was Aella. I focused on him again. “Why did they take her?”

He shrugged, crossing his arms over his chest. “Didn’t ask what they were up to.”

“Why were you left here?”

He snorted. “I stayed to make sure no sick fuckers tried anything.” He scowled. “I didn’t sign up for this bullshit.”

“What bullshit?”

“Kids,” he said, turning his head then spitting on the ground. “Wasn’t in the fucking plans.”

“What was?”

“Like I’m going to fucking tell you that,” he said with a chuckle.

“Had to try,” I replied with a grim smile. I hesitated a minute, then asked, “You going to let me take her?”

He looked at the end of my rifle, as if he had any choice in the matter, surprisingly he stood his ground. “How do I know you’re who you say you are?” he countered.

For some reason, this rough looking guy was looking out for Aella, and I was fucking relieved about that.

“Her name is Aella.” He nodded for me to continue.

“She’s from Texas. Has a brother named Jared.

They were kidnapped a little over a week ago in front of a grocery store while their parents ran inside for something. ”

“Good enough,” he replied. “Go ahead and take her. Get her the fuck away from here.”

“You’re coming with me.”

“The fuck I am,” he said with a smirk. “You can’t wrangle her and me at the same time. I’m guessing you want her more than you want to keep me around.”

Dammit. He was right. As soon as I turned toward the bed, he walked over to the door. Bastard didn’t even have the decency to hurry. It was like he had all the time in the world.

“We’re looking for the boy, too,” I told him.

He opened the door, letting sunlight spill into the area. “I don’t know where they took him.”

“Do you know why they took them?” This was the third time I’d asked him their plans. I was hoping that maybe he’d slip up if I asked enough times and would give me some useful intel. It was surprising how many people fell for that.

He shook his head. “Too low on the roster to know that shit.”

“You heading back to them?”

“Maybe.”

“Just a fair warning. If you’re there when we find him, we’re not going to take it easy on you.

” He grinned, white teeth flashing in the sunlight.

He didn’t look like a low level shit bag.

Too many teeth for starters. Knowing how to brush those teeth was another clue he didn’t belong with these guys.

Fuck, he looked like he could belong to our club.

Tall, dark hair, muscular, tattoos, good looking—if you were into men.

“You wouldn’t be smiling if you saw their father. He’s a big fucker. And he’s pissed .”

“I bet,” he said, then he was through the door and it was shutting us back into the gloom.

Turning back to the bed, I saw that Aella was awake. She looked terrified and her eyes were bouncing between me and the door the man had just walked out. I got the feeling she was about to bolt after him. Which meant she knew he was safe.

I could only imagine what kinds of situations he’d protected her from for her to want to follow him. That and the fact that she didn’t know me. Crouching down, I caught her gaze. “I’m a friend of your dad’s.”

She frowned at me, but didn’t say anything and didn’t move. “He and your Uncle Steel and Axel are here, looking for you.”

That made her face soften a little. Hope flashed over her features. She looked at my cut and studied it and must have decided that added credibility because she hesitantly took the hand I held out.

I waited until she clambered off the bed, then walked her to the door. It took me a minute to realize she didn’t have any shoes on. Rather than wasting time looking around for them, I hefted her into my arms and carried her out of the warehouse.
