“People can change their minds.” I shrugged. “Plus, you have something I want.”

He closed in on my personal space and raised his brows. “Oh, yeah? And what’s that?”

Now that he was fully focused on me, I saw Cade, from my peripheral vision, sliding closer to us.

“We’ll start with the goods, thenmaybeyou can take me for a spin in your sweet ride.”

“Maybe I will.” Kian perked up like a kid on Christmas. “How’d you get my number?”

“A mutual acquaintance. We run in the same circles.”

“Yeah, I doubt it.” He snorted arrogantly. “No offence, but you don’t seem like the kind of girl who gets her hands dirty.”

Oh, you don’t know what kind of girl I am, Kian.“Appearances can be deceiving.”

“You can spend the night convincing me otherwise.” He wiggled his brows. “What did you say your name was?”

I had him eating out of my hands like a sucker. “Nemesis.”

His forehead scrunched and he reached into his pockets, pulling out a bag of cocaine. Once again, I noticed a skull tattoo on the back of his hand and an expensive sapphire encrusted watch. I knew he couldn’t afford the latter on his salary. “Weird name. But that’s not my concern. Anyways, pay up, cutie. This shit isn’t free.”

I reached into my jacket for the wad of cash. My eyes connected with Cade’s over Kian’s shoulder and excitement zinged through my bloodstream.

Fanning out the twenties, I threw them sharply at Kian’s face with a hiss, “Count this, asshole.”

His eyes widened when the bills slapped his face and flew in the air.

And my boyfriend chose that exact moment to attack.

Cade smacked Kian with the baseball bat. The satisfying sound of it hitting his skin broke the cricket filled melody of the night.

Kian cried out as his useless body folded on top of mine. Before he could reach for his weapon, I shoved him off me. Cade’s baseball bat came around his throat, choking him and sandwiching his body between us.

“Surprise, motherfucker,” Cade spat with a sinister edge.

Kian panted, clutching weakly at the baseball bat cutting into his throat suffocatingly. He was turning blue and his flailing hands tried to claw their way out of this predicament. “What’s…going…on?” he garbled with a strained voice.

I whipped out my gun and cocked it under his chin. “Stay put or I’ll blow out your brains.”

Kian halted, eyes popping out of his skull like a squeeze-toy. I relished the way fear wrapped around him. It almost drowned out the stench of his pathetic cologne. “W-Who are you?”

His ashen face fed my bloodthirst in a way I couldn’t explain.

“I told you,” I said in a mock innocent voice. “My name is Nemesis.”

“Y-You’re f-fucking crazy, bitch!”

I smiled like it too. “Oh, you have no idea how crazy I am, Kian. But you’ll know by the end of the night.”

“Are you ready to play, baby?” Cade chimed in with a dark laugh.

“You know I am.”

With a wink in my direction, Cade dragged Kian’s body backwards into the recesses of his new hell, while the culprit screamed for mercy with gurgling noises.

I skipped after the two of them with a Cheshire cat grin.
