Was it strange to think that Con fit the role of protective dad perfectly? Luca wondered if Con felt he’d missed that part of his life. Con was admittedly bisexual, leaning more toward gay, and all gay for years now, if Sam and Luca were any sign. Kids made little sense until now. But Luca wondered what that meant for their trio.
Sam stepped in close, pulling Luca into a bruising hug. It was nice. The pain was nearly enough to override the overwhelm in his gut. “We are fine,” Sam said, his fangs nicking Luca’s shoulder, pulling a startled gasp from Luca.
Instantly hard, a kink built from years of being bitten by this particularly hot vampire, Luca rubbed his cock into Sam’s hip. Sam groaned, only taking a sip before healing the wound. Luca’s favorite thing was to be covered in tiny bites while being ridden hard. He sank into Sam’s arms, letting him take his weight.
“I’m not ready for a kid,” Luca said after a minute, really wary of the noise he made. Everything echoed in the loft, which hadn’t bothered him before, but now made him worry about waking anyone or getting interrupted in the middle of sexy time.
Sam snorted a quiet laugh, slapping a hand over his mouth to keep the sound down. “Is anyone ever? Sounds like she’s had it rough. Con’s already attached.”
Luca wondered about that. Was it because of the mention of his sister? Rou’s kids liked Con. They thought he was goofy and fun in the older gamer sort of way. Ki always spewed game facts with him, though the only game Luca knew them to play together was Animal Crossing. It was really not the sort of game Luca knew Con preferred.
“He has a big heart. I’m not sure it ever healed from losing Kat,” Luca said. He pulled out of the hug, deciding he needed to stop moping and start helping. They were a trio for a reason. It was just art coming down, nothing life ending. He turned and headed into the kitchen to switch the finished wash to dry and examine the fridge. Kids needed actual food, right? He could order real food but knew little about cooking.
“Hey,” Sam said, having not moved even when Luca pulled away.
“What?”
“It’s gonna be okay.”
“Not if I never get to sex you both up again,” Luca grumbled.
“As if we’d ever let that happen, and I know that’s not really what’s in your head.” Sam tapped his forehead. “Long timecibobond means I get flickers, remember. We still work, and will continue to work, even if there’s a little to care for. Change sucks, but we’ll roll with it.”
“You’re one to talk. The anxiety has been pouring off you all night,” Luca said. He jabbed at the grocery app they all used, pulling up their shared history. He hit reorder on their entire backlist, and in a few clicks had everything paid for and delivery planned. Con usually did the grocery stuff, as he did most of the cooking when they weren’t eating out, but that meant it was healthy, right?
They worked in silence for a while, moving things around, taking down or covering art that wasn’t child friendly. Luca wondered if he should call his decorator. But redoing the whole place sounded rash for their new guest, and he really liked the colors and layout.
“Do you sense anything strange?” Sam asked after a long bought of silence.
“About Bella? I think the spider is pretty strange.”
“No, before all this. The last day or so, something,” Sam put his hand over his heart, “here? A vibration?”
Luca frowned. “It’s not the fire element calling you, is it?”
“I don’t know. Doesn’t feel like some pool of volcanic lava. Seiran describes the earth as boiling rage laced with touches of growing things. This… I don’t know. It doesn’t feel like fire, but maybe a little like… doom? Heavy.”
Luca took a long breath, counting and slowly letting it out. He didn’t feel magic like the others. He had hoped he’d have something as his father had power, even if no one really defined it. But maybe Luca had to transition to vampire in order to have it? Not that he really wanted that either. A life of only blood, darkness, and no sweets? Tragedy.
“Con’s home now,” Luca said. “That didn’t help?”
Sam flinched. “Made it worse, I think. I don’t know how to describe the feeling. It’s a bit on edge, like how I feel before I go to ground, only it’s not that. Not the revenant pulling at me.” He sighed. “I don’t know how to explain while not sounding crazy. I’m not any sort of seer or anything.” His eyes got wide. “What if I’ve met the seer? The one whomever is using to change fate? What if I can siphon that? Fuck, I don’t think I want to know the future. I know it’s an elephant in the room that we don’t talk about, but Con is aging. Not that last growth spurt like Seiran had, but really aging. I’ve thought a thousand times about asking him to become my Focus. But worry he’d freak out. What if I see the future and his death? That would kill me.”
“That would assume he’d never say yes to being your Focus. You are not a fate worse than death,” Luca said. But Sam’s expression said he thought otherwise.
Luca put his phone down on the counter and crossed the space to drag Sam into one of the big armchairs. It was a tangle of limbs. Maybe he could convince Sam to go back up and nap with Con. Con would be out for a while after being awake for days straight. Luca didn’t need as much sleep and Sam even less until the sun rose, but Sam would find mental rest wrapped around Con. Luca curled himself around Sam like an octopus.
“Feel any lottery numbers coming to you?” He teased as Sam purred like a kitten in Luca’s arms. Sam hated to admit it, but he was insanely tactile, needing touch even if it was only a hug. He played bad boy well, but it was an act. Childhood trauma cropped up often to make him flinch or hide the need. Not all of Luca’s constant push for sex had to do with Luca’s high libido. Sometimes it was the easiest way to settle his lovers’ unrest when they weren’t certain how to do it themselves. Drowning them in sensation and lust often eased the rising tide of anxiety that plagued both of his lovers.
“’Cause we need more money?” Sam asked.
“Is there ever too much money?”
“Aren’t we millionaires?”
“Yes,” Luca said.
“Not billion?”
