Almost twenty minutes later, we pulled up to the event.
It was being held out in Coral Gables at the Biltmore Hotel .
This was a perfect spot for this event to be held, since it was one of those historic hotels with a nice ballroom.
Our driver was able to pull the sprinter up in the front, where he stepped out, opening the back door.
Law got out first, and just like he did with assisting me getting in, he did the same thing with me getting out.
He lifted me up by my waist, and he gently put me down on the ground.
The boys stepped out next, and we thanked the driver.
He let us know that he would stay parked out front, and for us to enjoy our time.
“I hope it’s some fine girls inside,” Creed was the one to announce, once we were all walking up.
“That’s your problem now. Your always worried about the wrong damn thing,” I shot, hitting him in the back of his head. Like it was funny, he just started laughing.
We eventually made it inside, and you would have thought that we were the Carter family by the way everyone swooned over us once we were inside.
We were complimented as a family the minute we entered the room.
Cameras were put into our face, snapping pictures.
It was a big event, so there were reporters that were quick to put mics in our face, wanting to know what we were wearing tonight, what we were most excited about, and talking about the charity.
Luckily, I worked in this kind of business, so I was used to it, but I was feeling just a little bit overwhelmed. I was so good at hiding it though.
During our interviews, Law held onto me tightly, arm wrapped around me, so if the world was ever in question on if we were back together, when this footage dropped tonight, they would know for sure that we were.
My boys were behind me, with looks on their faces, as if they were ready to find their seats because I knew how much they hated this kind of stuff.
All of this didn’t end until almost ten minutes later, and we were finally able to walk away, finding the reserved table for us, and our family, and friends.
My mom, Shai, and Milan were all seated already.
I walked over with a big smile on my face, going for my mom first, hugging her.
I kissed her on the cheek, and then I went for my twin sister, doing the same, and I ended it off with Milan.
My boys, and Law followed suit, hugging them as well.
“Ima take the boys with me. Let them work the room with me for a little bit. You good?” Law asked me once I sat down.
“I’m good, baby. Go ahead,” I assured him. He nodded, kissed the top of my head, and then he walked away, taking the boys with him.
“That’s what I like to see. Beautiful, black love. Ya’ll had no business divorcing. It brought you two back even closer, so I won’t go in too much,” my mom said, sitting there with a smile on her face, looking as beautiful as ever.
For my mom to be older, she looked damn good for her age.
I prayed that God showed me the same grace that he showed her when I creeped into my fifties.
Her beautiful chocolate skin was glowing, just as it always was.
She wore a black gown as well, and even with her being seated, I could tell the way it sucked her in, showing off that small waist, and the spread of her hips.
My mom was curvy, and growing up, me, and Shai would always question when we would get some of the ass that she had.
She lived a stress-free life because she was retired.
She stayed on the damn move, so it wasn’t always that I could just drop my kids off with her.
I loved that life for her though. She could be sinking in depression, sad that her, and my dad didn’t work out, but she wasn’t doing those things.
“Ma, they had no choice but to get back together. They were back sleeping with each other just moments after wasting everybody’s time in court for a divorce,” Milan blurted. Milan had been in my life so long that my mom was like her mom, which is the reason she would always call her ‘ma’.
My mom didn’t know about me, and Law sleeping together the same day that we divorced because of course I didn’t tell her, so when Milan said it, all she could do was shake her head.
I popped Milan on her arm for snitching.
She was another one that looked beautiful this evening in her black gown.
My twin sister did, too. These bitches had their finished cocktail glasses on the table, and I was pissed that I couldn’t drink anything from the open bar.
I knew it was only a matter of time before they asked me why I wasn’t drinking with them.
They still didn’t know about the pregnancy.
I was going to tell them really soon though because I hated hiding it from them.
A few moments later, there was commotion going on at the entrance.
I turned my head to see who it was, and of course it was the Queen of the courtroom, none other than Alecia King walking in.
Just like everyone else, my tongue was damn near hanging out of my mouth when I saw her, coming in, and wearing the fuck out of that black dress.
If that wasn’t my friend, I swear I would have walked over to her with a pen, and pad, asking her for her autograph.
She came in holding hands with Montana, who was rocking a black tux as well, cleaning up nice just like his wife.
He let her hand go, and he stepped back a little bit, so that she could have her moment, and take her pictures, and stuff.
She reached her hand back out for him, where he came up behind her, wrapping his hands around her tiny waist, and everything about that was so sensual, and passionate.
“God, I know he be taking her all up and through there. In all honesty, both of them are sexy as hell. I swear to God that I would like to be a fly on the fuckin wall just to see one session with them,” Milan blurted out to me, saying what I’ve thought before.
I laughed at her comment though because you could tell that she was dead ass serious.
Alecia did her interviews, and she worked the room.
Her eyes landed on me, and when they did, she smiled and quickly walked over.
I removed my clutch from my lap, sat it down on the table, so that I could stand up.
“Yes ma’am, Soraya! You are working that damn dress. Girl, you look good,” she screeched, once she was close enough.
I smiled, eating it all up, and I hugged her.
We squeezed each other tightly, and once we pulled away, I sent the compliment right back, telling her how good she looked.
She knew who my sister, Milan, and my mom were, so all the ladies hugged.
Alecia let us know that she would be back over later in the night to chit chat with me, and I told her it was fine because I knew that she had a lot of people here that she wanted to see and talk to.
The night went on. We ate some really good food, Law, and Alecia cleared house, each winning three awards a piece, and towards the end of the night, they showed that the goal that they had for the charity was reached, and then some.
I was in such a good mood because I felt like God had favored me and allowed Dominic not to come to the event tonight, but right when my ass had gotten way too happy, I could hear the commotion at the door, and that’s when I turned around, and it was him, right in the flesh, walking in with a date on his arm.
My body froze up, as if I’d just saw a fuckin ghost. He was sporting that cocky smile, like he would always do.
I hate to say it, but I couldn’t point out a flaw in him.
He cleaned up nice in his black tuxedo, just like every other guy in here.
Perfect shape, looking like a damn athlete as he stood there.
Full beard, a perfect chocolate face, and that bald head on him was nice, and clean.
He was so into his damn self, posing for the pictures, no longer holding onto his date because he cared too much about the moment being about him.
They needed to give me the donkey of the day award for even messing around with that clown.
Law was cocky too, but the way Dominic did it, it made him look vain.
“Goofy ass nigga. Ima go talk my shit with him for a minute though because I want to see how shit is going with him, and that Reggie case,” Law released.
The second he said that, my heart started beating out of my ass.
It was just me, and him at the table. Our boys found some friends here from school, so they were hanging with them.
Milan was somewhere talking to somebody she met at the bar, knowing damn well that if Zoe found out, he would be ready to knock her head between a washer and dryer.
Shai skipped off to the back, sitting with a dude that she used to mess around with, and my mama left already for the evening.
It was late, after eleven, and she liked to act like she couldn’t hang past a certain hour, so Law had already walked her out to her car about twenty minutes ago.
Law made a move like he was getting ready to get up, but I pulled on the sleeve of his tux, not wanting him to leave.
“Just stay over here with me. Look how extra cocky his ass is. Why even go over there? Ya’ll aren’t friends, right?” I just wanted to make sure. When I asked that, Law looked at me crazy and laughed.
“Since when I cared about a nigga being cocky? Who the fuck cockier than me? Nah, that ain’t my friend. I just know bruh from passing. You know we exchanged words a time or two, but nothing too crazy,” he explained to me, telling me what I already knew.
“Just don’t go. Say over here with me,” when I said it, there was panic in my voice.
