Chapter Nine
CREED CRAWFORD
“Can you take your clothes out the dryer, so that I can put mine in?” I spat, coming in Legend’s room, not bothering to knock, or anything.
It’s been a few weeks since that shit happened with me, and he was still crabbing about it, in his feelings, not speaking to me, acting like a little bitch.
I’ve apologized for the shit so many times, but he still wasn’t fuckin with me.
He’s carrying on like he was the one that had disappointed everyone, and like our pops had stopped talking to him.
Our pops was probably mad at his ass for like one day, but me, on the other hand, I felt like I just got back in his good graces.
People were still talking about the shit on social media, but it wasn’t as heavy as it had been in the beginning.
At school, I would still get the looks, and people would point and shit, but the noise was slowly going down, just like my pops had been telling me it would.
“When I finish doing what I’m doing in here, I’ll do it!” he snapped at me, not even turning around to look at me.
He was in his closet, and he was hanging clothes up.
It was Saturday evening, and usually, we would have been at our pops crib already, but he had some shit to handle with work today, and he just hit me and Legend in the group chat, letting us know that he would be here within another hour to get us.
I was trying to finish this last load of laundry, and have it folded up before we left, so that I wouldn’t have to hear my mama’s mouth.
She was in her room, packing up because her, and my auntie Shai were about to head to D.R.
to see our grandad. Originally, she was supposed to leave out tomorrow morning, but she said that whatever she had to do at work today didn’t take as long as she thought it would, so she would be out in a few hours.
“Man, either take that shit out right now, or I’ll take it out, and throw that shit in the fuckin hallway!
” I snapped at him. I was trying to be respectful, and not touch that man’s clothes, especially since we weren’t talking, but at the same time, I wasn’t going to let him play me like I was some duck, moving when he felt like it, and shit.
Legend stopped what he was doing, and he walked out of the closet, walking over to me, like he was going to put his hands on me. We both had our shirts off and were just walking around the crib in our gym shorts, and Nike slides.
“I told you that I would take the clothes out when I finish doing what the fuck I’m doing!
You don’t run shit, nigga! Get the fuck out of my room!
” he snapped, pushing me, and that’s where he went wrong, putting his hands on me, so I swung on him, but it’s like he knew that was coming because he was quick with his reflexes, moving out of the way, so my punch didn’t land.
He swung for me, and I dodged it too, but I didn’t dodge it quick enough, so he caught me right up under my jaw.
I went for this nigga’s legs, so that I could pick him up, and slam him on the floor.
From there, we started going in, beating each other like we were two random niggas on the street, that’s never seen each other a day in our lives.
“Hoe ass nigga!” Legend snapped, as he was on top, and I was on the bottom, and we were both throwing blows.
“Fuck you!” I spat, knocking that nigga out right between his eyes. He was a beast, keeping up with the hits that I was throwing his way because most people would have fallen over after the blow that I sent his way, but not him.
During this fight, it felt like we were trying to kill each other. Seconds later, you could hear footsteps taking off our way, and when I turned to look, that’s when this nigga snuck me, punching me right in my mouth.
“What the fuck are ya’ll doing?” it was my mama screaming. She rushed over, and she jumped right in the middle, going for Legend, since he was the one that was on top of me. He was like a bull, still raging, trying to get as many licks as possible on me.
It was hard breaking up this fight, especially since me, and Legend were both much bigger than my mama, but she was able to muster up some kind of strength, and she threw his ass off me, making him fall off, and he sat down, panting loudly from the fight that we just had.
I quickly sat up, and I tried to get up, and go over to him, hating that he had to be the one to get the last lick, but my mama pushed me with all her might, causing me to stumble.
I caught my fall though, so I never hit the floor.
Legend and I have had little scuffles over the years, but nothing to this extreme.
My twin was really my best friend. I felt like I did everything with him, except baseball because that was the one thing that he didn’t enjoy like I did.
I’ll be ready to take another niggas head off his shoulder for fuckin with my brother.
We came into this world together, and we have been stuck like glue ever since, so the shit shocked me to know that we just finished fighting like this.
From where I was standing, I could see the scratches that I left on his neck and chest, and they were bleeding to the point that you could see the white meat.
Because I’d knocked his ass out right between his eyes, you could see the lump that had quickly formed there.
His bottom lip was bleeding, and I could taste all kind of blood in my mouth, so he had my shit leaking too.
I could feel the blood that was trickling down my nose as well.
Our mama was looking at us, and not only could I see it in her eyes that she was angry that her sons had just finished fighting like this, but I also saw the hurt.
Her eyes were watery, so I knew that it was only a matter of time before she started crying.
“What the fuck happened?” she screamed, her voice cracking as she asked this question. She was standing right in the middle of us, hands on her hips, waiting for one of us to start talking, and let her know what caused us to be fighting like this.
“Ma, I came in his room respectful. All I asked for him to do was take his clothes out of the dryer, so that I could put mine in. He talking about he was going to do it when he finished doing what he was doing in the closet. He was moving all slow, trying to start something. I could have been rude, and took his clothes out of the dryer, and threw them on the floor, but I didn’t do that.
I told him to get it. Nigga started talking crazy, so I had to put my hands on him,” I told her what happened, and when I finished, he sucked his teeth.
“You didn’t come in my room being respectful.
Nigga, you came in here with demands, telling me to do what you wanted me to do on your time!
I was putting clothes up in my closet, and I wasn’t about to just stop what I was doing because you needed me to do something for you.
I ain’t them niggas at the school that you make your do boys, and they do all kinds of favors for you.
That don’t work on me!” Legend snapped back.
“You sound stupid! What do boys I got? If you and I were on good terms, you would have taken the clothes out of the dryer when I told you to. You purposely chose to take your time, and?—”
“Stop! Both of you, please just stop! Creed, and Legend, ya’ll are brothers.
Twin brothers at that! What the fuck is wrong with ya’ll?
So, because ya’ll got mad about some fuckin clothes in the laundry, ya’ll decided to fight about it?
I had my headphones in my ear, listening to music while I packed my bag, and I heard a loud noise, so I rushed out here to see what was going on, and I see my fuckin sons throwing down, like two niggas on the street that are enemies!
I get it. Ya’ll are not going to always get along, but it doesn’t have to resort to this.
Ya’ll share blood! Ya’ll are supposed to fight for each other, not with each other!
” her voice was trembling with so much rage, and those tears that she had been holding in eventually fell.
She was going to break her neck to tell our pops what happened when he got here, and that was going to be another issue.
My pops knew that me, and Legend were beefing.
According to him, he wasn’t going to get in the middle of our shit.
He called us stupid for going this many days without speaking to one another, but I knew that after my mama told him about this fight, he was going to insert himself in the middle and make us hash out whatever issues that we had.
She stood there crying, looking at both of us with disappointment in her eyes.
“I don’t even recognize my own kids right now.
This is not the way that me, and Sevyn raised you two.
I was just telling your dad the other day that it’s breaking my heart seeing the two of you walking around here not speaking to each other, but he got on me, telling me to stay out of it, and let you two hash it out on your own.
Legend, and Creed, ya’ll used to be inseparable at one point.
Ya’ll want to know the sad part about this shit?
While ya’ll are in here, fighting like strangers, you gotta know that nobody in this world is going to ride for either one of you harder than the very same person that ya’ll just tried to knock out.
Me, and you dad are always telling ya’ll that friends will come and go, but the brotherhood that ya’ll have will be forever.
So, marinate on that. I can’t wait for your daddy to get here, so that I can tell him what happened,” were her last words before she turned on her heels, and she walked the long hallway, going back to her bedroom.
