Page 50 of This Is Law 2
Law hopped on the turnpike, and the whole way to get the donuts, he had R&B music playing, and he was singing along to me, snapping his fingers, and he kept reaching his hand over, touching me, and I was loving every second of it.
Little things like this, being in his presence, where we weren’t doing something grand like taking a trip, going out for a fancy date, or all the other big things were good, but moments when I could just be under him, enjoying his space, that’s what meant the most to me.
We eventually pulled up to Krispy Kreme, and he asked me if I wanted to go in or just order from the drive- thru.
Because I’d already removed my shoes, and I was comfortable in my seat, I told him that we could just hop in the drive- thru line, which I’m surprised wasn’t that long, considering that the hot light was on, letting us know that the donuts were hot.
We made it to the front of the line in no time, where Law ordered a dozen of glazed donuts, and it wasn’t long before we reached the window, where he paid, and the woman handed him the box of donuts, that he then handed to me, and I put it in my lap.
I reached down in my purse, going for the small bottle of hand sanitizer that I would keep in there.
I squirted some in my hands, rubbing it in, and I put it up for Law to reach his hand out, and I squirted it for him, and he rubbed his hands together as well, and then pulled out of the line.
“How many you want?” I asked, opening the box. Back then, it would be our thing to open the box as soon as we got them because that’s when they would taste the best. That’s when they were fresh out of the oven, so they were nice, and hot.
“Put two on there for me, baby,” he responded, and I did just that, grabbing a napkin, and I put two donuts on the napkin for him, like he told me to.
After handing it to him, he thanked me, put the donuts in his lap, and he picked one up with his right hand to eat it, and he drove with left. I grabbed a donut as well, knowing that I was going to only have room to eat this one because I was still full from the dinner that we had.
Law hopped back on the highway, and when he did, I noticed that he kept stealing glances in the rearview mirror.
“Why you keep looking back? What happened?” I asked, alert, trying to see what was up. When I asked it, he kept his eyes on the rearview mirror, still looking back as if something back there had his attention.
“I’m going to merge two lanes over, and see if they merge, too. Put that box of donuts in the back seat. It’s the black Chevy Malibu back there with the dark tents,” he released.
I moved quickly, putting the box of donuts in the back seat, and as I did that, I made sure to look out of the back window, and sure enough, there was a black Chevy Malibu back there that was trailing two cars behind us.
I wasn’t scared because I knew who I was with.
This man has been telling me since I was a little girl that when I was with him, my life was always in good hands, so I trusted him.
Law merged two lanes over, and within a second, the Chevy Malibu merged too, but keeping two cars behind us.
“Hold the wheel. Let me get my gun off my waist. I don’t know what the fuck that nigga on, and I want to be prepared for it,” he ordered me.
I quickly reached over with my left hand, holding the wheel, keeping it steady, as Law reached his hand into his waistline, and he grabbed his Glock that he would wear on him as if it was an added accessory.
Once he had it, he placed it in his lap, and that’s when I moved my hand from the stirring wheel.
That’s when Law inched back over into the original lane that we had been in.
The lane that was closest to the exit. The Chevy merged too, this time, not keeping their distance.
They were proving to us now that they were following us.
Law reached his right hand over, pulled on my seatbelt, making sure that I had it tight.
“You about to be scared for about fifteen seconds baby, but I swear ain’t shit about to happen to you, or my baby, aight?
” he asked me. Now, my ass was scared, but I just nodded, pretending that I wasn’t.
I watched as Law’s eyes itched over to the exit ramp that was coming up in less than 1,000 feet.
He quickly picked up the gas, going from 50 miles, shooting to 95.
I grabbed onto my seatbelt, screaming, fearing that he was about to go one hundred fuckin miles on a ramp.
The car was bound to flip over, and we both would die.
When he started speeding like that, the Chevy did the same thing, driving just as fast. At the last second, right before we made it to the exit ramp, Law pretended as if he was going to take the exit, then his ass served, jerking the wheel back into the highway.
Because he did that, it caused the Chevy to react too late to what Law just did.
His tires screeched, his lost control of the car, and instead of him making it back onto the highway like Law just did, his car flipped multiple times in the air, landing him right into a ditch.
My hand was over my chest, as I watched this shit.
Law slowed down, and instead of driving away, his crazy ass drove right over to the ditch.
“Sevyn, what the fuck are you doing?” I screamed at him.
“I want to see who the fuck that was, and who the fuck sent him. Stay right here,” he responded, driving the car right over to the ramp, putting it in park, and he quickly got out.
I watched him as he rushed over, and from where I was seated, you could see the Chevy, and it was upside down. I had the perfect view of Law, as he was bent down, trying to reach the driver. I couldn’t hear anything that he was saying though. I didn’t even know if the driver was alive or not.
About one minute later, Law came rushing over to the car, quickly got in, and sat in his seat.
“Fuck!” he spat, punching the steering wheel a couple of times.
“Was he dead?” I asked.
“He will be in a few. Guess who the fuck sent him?” he asked me. His question shocked me because I didn’t expect him to get an answer because of the damage that was done to the car. I just knew that he was going to be inside that vehicle, dead.
“Who?” I damn near screamed.
“Edward Sterling. Soraya, Ima kill that nigga,” his words sent chills down my spine.
I took my seatbelt off, and I slouched down in my chair, wanting to fuckin scream. I was so sick, and tired of the bullshit.
I could barely even process this shit because moments later, you could hear sirens coming in the distance.
Law didn’t pull off. He didn’t even attempt to pull off, which I’m glad he didn’t because that would have been dumb.
There were all kinds of cameras out here on this highway, so it would have been pointless to leave.
I knew Law well enough to know that he would cooperate with them, but only to a certain extent.
Knowing that it was Edward Sterling that more than likely paid this man off to kill us, Law was going to cuff that in his back pocket and not tell it to the cops because he was going to want his justice… but street justice.
