Page 15 of The Wedding
She leaned against the back of the seat, eyes closing as she enjoyed the gentle motions of the limousine. It wasn’t a terrible drive back home, but if Jamie focused on it now she could get a sizable nap in.Dreading how my feet will feel when I step out of here. Might need to have Etta carry me inside.
Etta sucked in her breath and pulled out her phone. “A million messages. Just what I was afraid of.”
Jamie put a hand on her wrist. “You can deal with them when we get home.”
“Some of these are really important.”
“For work?”
“Unfortunately.”
“Is it that your business is booming more than usual? Or…”
“It’s the or. I don’t have a partner to share the burden anymore.” Etta’ssigh shook the limo. “Instead, I am dealing with everything. I never realized how much that woman really did before I bought out her shares after…”
“Don’t you dare bring it up today.”
“I won’t.” Etta put her phone back in her pocket. “Anyway, she did most of the schmoozing. I am not a natural charmer.”
“You don’t say.”
“Don’t make me come over there.”
Jamie huffed in her seat. So much for that nap. “I’m glad she was really happy today.”
Etta didn’t have to ask whom she meant. “She deserves every bit of it.” She chuckled. “I don’t envy her, though. Becoming the wife of an heiress, running a multi-million dollar business that skirts every law in the book, and becoming a mother? You’d never guess looking at her, but she’s an overachiever.”
“I think she’s catching up on ten years lost,” Jamie said, referring to the length of Monique’s previous relationship with Etta’s ex-business partner. “All the way down to planning a baby before she got married.”
“I know they were planning on starting all of that when they got back from the honeymoon, but I’m rather shocked someone as meticulous as Monique dared to trybeforethe wedding. Then again, maybe it was a ‘gallant attempt at beating nature to the punch.” Etta was terrible at impressions. In fact, she tried so little, that Jamie bristled to hear her attempt Monique’s mannerisms. She makes her sound so snooty. She would, too.If Monique weren’t so refined and socially adept, people would think she was the snottiest bitch to grace the social circles.I can think of a few others who can wear that crown.
Etta scooted closer to her girlfriend and put her hand on her leg. Jamie eased into it, her hand slipping between Etta’s thighs and taking comfort in her warmth. Finally, a nap.
Naturally, Etta had otherideas.
“Excuse you,” Jamie said, witnessing her get on top of her in the back of that limo.We have yet to totally fool around in a moving vehicle, and I intend to keep it that way.Their driver was in the front seat, with only the tinted window separating them. “What do you think you are doing, Ms. Coleman?”
Her hand pushed between Jamie’s thighs, much deeper than her own hand had gone between Etta’s.She is this close to hitting second base.“I can’t stand you in this dress. It’s much too sexy on you. Don’t you know what it does to a woman like me? You in this shade of blue?”
Guess Moniquewas right.Etta could never say no to her girlfriend in any color. “Apparently it turns you into an ape.”
Etta didn’t give her any words. Instead, she kissed Jamie’s throat, her other hand wrapping around her girlfriend’s midsection and touching her breasts through her dress.Such a perv.Jamie loved it. There was a reason she was still with Etta after all this time, and it wasn’t just the money. Although that helped her put up with her antics when Etta suddenly decided she needed sex right here and now. That used to happen a lot. Sometimes, it felt like a faraway memory of the first few months of their relationship. Jamie told herself it was because Etta was so busy, but it was hard to not take it personally when her girlfriend showed about as much interest in her as a cat with a new toy.
She’s certainly cat-like now.Jamie had always thought that. Etta was quiet, cool, and brooding if people didn’t know her like Jamie did.
Now here Jamie was, pressed against the seat, Etta’s suit wrinkling as she pawed at the fancy dress she bought for her ex-girlfriend’s bridal party.
“I don’t know…” Jamie put a hand on Etta’s chest in a half-assed attempt to push her away. “I’m not sure we should right here. Plus, I’m kinda tired.” She forced a laugh. “Can you wait until we get home?”
Etta tilted Jamie’s chin up, so she looked right into her eyes. “No.”
“No?”
“No.” Etta kissed her, making all intentions clear.
Usually, Etta was game for almost anything, anywhere.Except for as of late.Jamie would have never guessed Etta would go full speed after a long wedding.I should have. She’s a romantic deep inside. It took some serious mining to find that romantic side, but once Jamie unearthed it, she had a difficult time reburying it.
Etta was not a woman who could be toldnoright now. Oh, if Jamie wanted her to stop, she could say their safe word. Etta had always honored Jamie’s true desire to have no desires at all. But when she got like this? It was difficult for Jamie to say no – simply because she quickly got going, too.
