Chapter Forty-Seven

Lilah:You know what doesn’t make sense?

Cass:That my bar is a coffee shop in the mornings.

Lilah:You said it was fine last week when Mom suggested adding a coffee machine downstairs so we wouldn’t have to be deliver to every customer.

Mal:You did say it’s okay.

Cass:Was I supposed to say no?

Lilah:You can say no to my mother.

Mal:No one can say no to Rosalinda.

Cass:True story. She’s fucking scary.

Lilah:Fine, she can be a little intimidating. But back to my problem—Simone can’t be gone to visit her grandparents.

Mal:No?

Lilah:She doesn’t have a relationship with them. Can you search for her? I’m worried. It’s been a couple of weeks.

Mal:It has been, yet, I couldn’t find her whereabouts in the database.

Cass:It’s classified.

Mal:Everything we have is classified, but we can search for it. Except, her whereabouts. What if . . . she’s here, but they’re making everyone believe that she’s not?

Cass:What are you saying?

Mal:The guy she found dead in a ditch. The scene was pretty close to the one where we found Stinson. Let me ask Atlas to dig into what happened to our John Doe. What if she’s hiding someone?

Cass:You still think she’s a double agent?

Lilah:Leave my friend alone. Find her for me. I think she’s in trouble.

Mal:We will figure out what’s happening.
