Chapter Forty-Six

Lilah:I told Mom we’re dating.

Mal:Should I run?

Cass:Yep, this is a heads-up so we can plan our escape. I’ll get us new IDs. We’re bringing you with us, Lilah.

Lilah:No, she’s okay with us. Told me to tattle if anyone is being judgmental. She’ll take care of them.

Mal: I . . . that’s different.

Cass: Does that mean I get her tamales without cyanide?

Lilah:You’re not funny, but yes. We’re trying to figure out how we’re going to bake. We need ovens.

Mal:Cass, you can fix your kitchen—add an industrial oven and all the gadgets they need—since you won’t be using the apartment anymore.

Cass:I’ll hire some people. Can’t have it ready for a couple of days.

Lilah:That fast? You should take charge of Mom’s reno.

Mal:Don’t do that, Cass. She won’t like it if you meddle.

Cass:What if I do once the mission is over?

Lilah:You caught the mafiosos?

Cass:No, but we’re finishing this soon.

Mal:Hey, I won’t be home until later today. I’m heading to check on Keir.

Lilah:Is he okay?

Mal:We can’t get in touch with him.

Cass:He’ll be fine. We have a team already searching for him. Call if you need me.
