Chapter Twenty-Five
Cass: Is it true that your mom is trying to set you up with Mrs. Rogers’ grandson?
Lilah: No, her son—and be her grandson’s new mom.
Mal: Fuck no.
Cass: I agree, but she said (and I quote), “He already has a four-year-old boy. That’s like having an instant grandson.”
Lilah: Do not listen to my mother. I think she wants to auction me for the next New Year’s festival fundraiser.
Mal: She wants me to be a part of a calendar for some charity—a shirtless calendar.
Cass: :laughing emoji: It’s okay, I’ll win both auctions and take you home.
Lilah: We can’t go to your house. People will know.
Mal: Yeah, how’s that going to work?
Cass: Your place in the middle of nowhere is perfect for meetups.
Lilah: We can only get together after my shift at The Honey Drop—but not too late so I don’t raise suspicions.
Mal: You two can go to my place whenever you want. I don’t need to be there.
Cass: You sure?
Mal: Yeah, I’ll send you the code for the locks and alarms.
Lilah: Is this even going to work?
Mal: We’ll make it work.
