Page 14 of The Hood’s Finest: Jersey & Mylani
Shanna
Jersey had all of life fucked up if he thought he was about to settle down with a bitch that wasn’t me.
I had his fucking son, so I trumped all of that.
He had to see me, and I meant that shit.
I was on my way to his parents’ house now to see if I could catch him there.
I could never catch him at home, so he had to be somewhere shacked up with that hoe.
I pulled up at his parents’ house and made a beeline for the door.
“What are you doing here, Shanna?” his mom asked. I didn’t like her, and she didn’t like me. Her fake bougie ass got on my last nerve.
“I came to talk to your son. Is he here?”
“Is my grandson okay?” she asked, genuinely concerned. She may have been a bitch, but Jerz was the apple of her eye.
“My son is fine. I came here to talk to yours.”
“Look, lil’ girl. Jersey doesn’t live here. I suggest you go to his home, where he resides.”
“Don’t you think I’ve done that? I’ve been by his condo for a week straight, and he hasn’t been there, unless Houston has been lying for him.”
“His condo? Oh, girl. How stupid can you be?” His mom laughed when she said that.
“This should show you how important you are to my son. You don’t even know where he really lives. You just got caught up in all the glitz and glam.”
“What do you mean, where he really lives? He lives in Midtown with Houston,” I revealed.
“If that’s what you’d like to think. I suggest you call him and get out my house.”
“Look, can you call him for me? I really need to talk to him. He hasn’t been answering for me. Even when I call from Jerz’s phone, he hangs up.”
“I’ll call him this time, but y’all need to get y’all’s shit together because I’m no damn mediator.” I was relieved that she said she would call him for me. When he got on the phone, I was gonna let his ass have it.
“Wassup, Ma? I’m kinda busy right now.” I heard his voice flow through the speaker.
“Somebody wants to talk to you,” she said, waiting for me to speak. I reached for the phone, but she moved it out the way.
“Talk if you gonna talk. You don’t need to hold it.”
Rolling my eyes, I started to go off on his ass.
“Jersey, where the hell have you been? I’ve been trying to get in touch with you all week!” I yelled into the phone.
“Shanna? Yo, did you really have my mama call me? Bruh, you have to be the dumbest broad alive. Ain’t shit wrong with Jerz because I already checked up on him. What possessed you to go to my parents’ house?”
“You really went and wifed that stripper bitch, and where do you stay? I know she doesn’t know and I don’t!” I was mad as hell at the thought.
“Ma, hang up. I’ll call you when I’m done here.” His mom disconnected the call and shook her head at me.
“That’s what you wanted? To get cursed out? Cut your losses, chile. From what I hear, you’ve moved on anyway, so why are you so obsessed with my son?”
“Whatever. Tell your son that since he wants to be an asshole, don’t worry about Jerz. My new nigga got him.”
Fuck Jersey and his mama.
***
I was getting ready to go out with a few of my friends.
I needed a breath of fresh air, and I was gonna take it.
I took full advantage of my sister living here.
She didn’t pay me any money, so I was going to take full advantage of her babysitting services.
Jerz was old enough to do pretty much everything on his own.
He just couldn’t be left home alone. I knew Jersey was gonna try to come and show out; that was why I planned on being gone long before he got here.
“Alright, Tasha. I’m about to go. Don’t let Jerz stay up all night on that game.”
“I know, Shanna.” She rolled her eyes like I was annoying her.
Grabbing my keys, I headed out the door but ran right into the cold steel of the gun that Jersey was pressing against my forehead.
“If you scream, I’ll blow your shit right here.
Let me tell you a lil’ something about me since it’s obvious you don’t know.
I don’t take threats about my family lightly.
That hot shit you were on earlier about me not seeing my son will get you put in an early grave.
I give no fucks about you, so I won’t hesitate.
He’s young, so he’ll forget your ass real quick.
“I love my son more than the desire to blow your shit loose, so I’ma give you a pass this time.
Please don’t test me again, Shan. It won’t end well for you.
I can promise you that.” He took his gun from my head, but the tears were still running down my face.
I couldn’t believe that he had just pulled a gun on me.
I was the mother of his child, and he pulled a gun on me.
I was too shaken up to go out now, so I was headed back in the house until I heard Jersey speak again.
“Oh, I almost forgot. Don’t ever let me hear you disrespect my girl again, or that’ll be another issue that we have.
Have my son ready tomorrow. I’ll be by to get him and don’t test me and try no funny shit either.
” I looked on as he backed out the driveway and disappeared down the street.
He was gonna regret the shit he just pulled on me. I could promise you that.
