“ W hat was that about?” Brent asks, his eyes locked on Colton’s back as he walks away.

I shrug. “Same shit different day. I can handle myself though, big bro, no need to get all weird.”

“I don’t like him talking to you.” He’s still staring in the direction Colton walked even though he’s out of sight now.

“Yeah, yeah, you’ve never liked any of your teammates talking to me.” I roll my eyes. Brent is the typical protective older brother, especially of me. I’m sure he was and is protective of Bailey too, but she’s always been a bit more distant.

“Whatever, you need a ride home?”

“No, I drove because I knew I couldn’t rely on any of these people to take me home,” I refer to Chandler, Audrey, and Spencer because I knew they would want to go home with their men without having the pit stop of dropping me off. And I know Brent would rather go right home too .

“Alright, see ya later, shorty.”

I groan, “I’m not even short.”

He just laughs and I ignore it while I say goodbye to Chandler who was distracted by Vince and Matt arguing about something. I also say goodbye to Audrey and Spencer before heading out to the parking garage.

I approach my black crossover when a little blue sports car races through the garage, I have to jump out of the way. It stops suddenly, behind my car, rolling down the window to reveal the driver and I’m not at all surprised.

“You could kill someone, you know.” I narrow my eyes at him.

“I’m careful, unless you don’t want me to be,” Colton teases.

“You’re disgusting.”

“Last chance to change your mind and come home with me. Maybe you need a good fuck to loosen up and I’m nice enough to offer.”

“I will never want to go home with you, so give it up.”

“Aw, Princess, never say never. I can be very convincing.”

I paste a fake wide smile on my face and approach his open window, leaning in with my elbows propped on it.

“You know, maybe I can be convinced.” I make sure my cleavage is accentuated, and when I see his eyes shift down to it, I know I’ve succeeded.

“Yeah?” He runs his tongue along his bottom lip, his eyes fixed on my chest.

“Yeah, you know, if you take this pretty little car and drive off the nearest cliff, then maybe I’d consider it.” I stand up and start to back away.

“I meant what I said, Baby Collee, keep talking dirty to me. It only makes me want you more. I like a challenge and I know you want me.”

“If I wanted you, then you’d have me already.” I turn, giving him my back as I go to get in my car.

I expect that to piss him off, but he just laughs.

“We’ll see about that, Princess, you’ll be begging for my dick in no time.”

I make a dramatic gagging noise as I start to get in my car. “Go home and go to sleep, because the only time that will happen is in your dreams.”

Shutting my door, I cut off anything else he could be saying, and I watch in my rearview mirror as he drives away. The last glimpse I get of him, I expect to see him scowling or looking pissed off, but he isn’t. He has a smug smile on his face like he really believes he’s going to get what he wants.

But that will never happen.

By the time I get home my exhaustion hits me like a train. The adrenaline from watching the game, and then the verbal sparring with Colton has me ready to curl up and pass out for the next twelve hours.

I force myself to wash my face, brush my teeth and change into some pajamas as opposed to flopping face down onto my bed, makeup, jeans, and all. Once I’m finally ready, I slide in between my cool sheets snuggling up and embracing my soft blankets.

The moment my eyes close my phone dings with a notification. I fully expect it to be Brent checking to make sure I got home okay because he loves to pull that stuff with me. I know he will end up blowing me up if I don’t respond, so I grab the phone to check, but see it’s not a text from my brother. It’s a social media notification and I roll my eyes.

Colton Wheeler has followed you.

I could block him, but I tell myself I’ll do it in the morning, because I’m too tired to deal with it right now which is why I toss my phone back onto my nightstand and fall asleep almost instantly.

When Spencer and I talked about her taking time off and both of us moving away from L.A. I pictured my life in Denver a little different than this. Because, for me, it hasn’t changed. I’m fielding requests for Spencer with the same answer over and over about her taking time off right now and not doing any interviews.

I’m glad there hasn’t been any more backlash from the Kenneth situation at this point. When I told Spencer and Jared together what happened after her last show Jared didn’t react well, but Spencer has a skill of calming him down.

However, I anticipate drama to ensue at the game tomorrow. It’s a home game for the Dragons and we’re all going.

I’m in the middle of answering emails when I get a text from Chandler.

Chandler: Hey! You busy?

Brynn: Only with things I don’t want to do. What’s up?

Chandler: Want to go shopping?

Brynn: Only if you let me buy things for my niece!

Chandler is pregnant and due in a little over a month and has been weird about getting presents from anyone because she said the guys have already bought too much. Mostly Vince, but Matt and my brother have overdone it as well and she insists she doesn’t need anything else.

Chandler: One thing!

Brynn: I’ll pick you up in an hour. *smile emoji*

When I get to Chandler’s house, my brother answers the door and fake scowls at me.

“What do you want?” he asks.

“To steal your organs and sell them on the black market. Let me in, I'm not here for you. ”

“What’s the password?” He folds his arms and leans against the doorframe.

I groan and push forward using all my strength to move him away from the entrance. Even though I’m five-foot-nine, I’m the shortest of my siblings with the rest of them being over six feet, including Bailey. Brent is the tallest at six-foot-six, and since he’s a hockey player he’s essentially a wall and I haven’t lifted anything heavier than a laptop in years.

But I’m stubborn and determined so I still attempt to bulldoze my brother out of the way.

“What’s going on?” a male voice asks from inside the house.

I peek around Brent to see Vince standing a few feet away looking extremely confused.

“Vince! My favorite out of Chandler’s boyfriends. I’m here for your girlfriend and this asshole is acting like a child.”

Brent scoffs, but still doesn’t move.

Vince looks between me and Brent before shaking his head. “You two make me appreciate the relationship I have with my sister. I’ll go get Chan.”

“Thank you!” I call after him before narrowing my eyes up at Brent. “You’re a child. And you’re about to have one so you may want to grow up.”

“I’m just standing here. You’re the one trying to push me out of the way like a tiny little child.”

I snarl, “Count your days big bro. Count. Your. Days. ”

“Brynn,” Chandler calls from inside and that is what finally makes the big doofus move because he turns to look at her and gives a small smile. I love that he’s so happy, but also…gross.

“Chandler, let’s get out of here before this one drives me to drink,” I hook my thumb in Brent’s direction. “And I know I’ll be in trouble if I drag you into a bar at eight months pregnant.”

Chandler chuckles and presses her hand on Brent’s chest which gets him to move instantly. I scowl at him while slicing my thumb across my neck in his direction while he kisses the top of her head.

“Love you, beautiful, have fun,” he tells Chandler.

She leaves his embrace, and he starts to go back inside. “Love you, big brother!” I shout. Loudly.

He just shakes his head before shutting the door and I laugh as we walk back to my car.

“He does love you, you know,” Chandler clarifies.

“I know. He’d be totally lost without me.”
