Here, within her family and the close-knit community of ranchers, she could more or less manipulate everyone to do what she wanted.Yet, if she wanted to live in the city, there would be too many variables for her to control.
Now that he knew her better, he had more faith that Hallie might be able to overcome this need to manipulate everyone around her.
“I’m sure it’ll go well,” Luke said, “plus, I’ve got a little surprise that will bring in more donors.”
“What is it?”Hallie asked eagerly.
“It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you.”
“I wish you hadn’t told me at all.Now I’ll be wondering what it is all day!Maybe if I tickle you...”She reached for his torso, but he stood firm, not shrinking away and not laughing at all.“What? You’re not ticklish?”
He shook his head.“Sorry.Maybe you’re not tickling the right area.”
Hallie opened her mouth wide.“Is that some kind of double entendre?”
“No,” he insisted, looking serious.“I’m just not going to tell you where I’m ticklish.”
“Another secret, huh?”
“You could try to find out,” he offered, lifting his arms in an open stance.
“Nice try,” she said, grinning.
Hallie was more comfortable around him at least, though he was disappointed that she didn’t feel ready to get closer to him. This would have to be one of the longest seductions he had ever done, but he was determined not to give up.
Chapter 29: Get Your Silver Foxes Here!
“Luke, you didn’t!”
“I did.”
The park gardens were bustling with people, and many of them stopped by the tater twister stall, the same one that had been at the rodeo.
A huge sign hanging on the stall read: “Today only: 50% of profits to benefit seniors!”
“How did you get them to do it?”Hallie asked.
