Page 112 of Tethered Souls
“What for?” Rudy asks.
Talon shakes his head. “Rei doesn’t know, but she wants me to take her out.”
“She care for him at all?” I sign, wanting to know the chances of this being a trap.
Another headshake. “Hates him. He leaves her covered in bruises. Has broken a few of her bones. He’s stabbed her a few times, burned her in others. Shot her once. Opened up her stomach and jerked off with her intestines.”
“Fucking hel,” Micha says from the kitchen.
We all ignore her, but I catch her attempt at repeating herself in sign language. She’s trying to learn for Rudy, and fuck, does that make me hard for her.
Mother corrects a mistake she makes, and I tear my focus away from them.
“He do the same thing to his wife?” I ask. If he does, using his family to break him probably isn’t going to work.
Talon shrugs. “No idea. Cid never talks about family with her.”
The front door slams open, and Maddox rushes in, out of breath and a few inches shorter than normal. He clearly did not take the time to measure the amount of meat he needed. He most likely just grabbed one body and called it done.
“I got a fucking wolf,” he says, tapping his head.
“Fully or just face?” I demand, adrenaline pumping in my veins. Though either one is a fucking ace up our sleeve.
His grin splits his lips apart. “Face –”
“Lame,” Rudy signs, teasing him.
He glares at him before adding, “But he wants to take me out, so I’ll get his DNA soon.”
“As you?” Rudy asks. “Or some bimbo?”
“Seriously, bruh, if you could experience a girl’s orgasm, you wouldn’t be knocking me each time I changed to get laid.”
“Any other info?” I snap, making it fucking clear that line of conversation is over.
“Full body experience,” Maddox mouths as Talon shakes his head.
But that’s enough for me to make a plan. “T, you’ll get Rei out and get her DNA.” His jaw tightens the slightest bit, but he doesn’t protest us using her. “Rudy, you’re his backup if shit hits the fan.”
He nods without hesitation even though we all know what it’ll cost him if it comes to that. Weeks of night terrors that have the power to actually kill him. And us. He is a last resort, but fucking hel is he some damn good calvary.
“Khalid, get a team together to grab Cid.”
“I can –” Khalid starts, but I shake my head.
“Pick a team. Half a dozen. We need you fully healed for the interrogation. Maddox, you’ll stay here.”
“I could help with –” He sighs in disappointment when I look at him.
“You’re breaking into his house and getting the DNA of his family. You still have enough bodies?”
My brother hums, looking a lot happier. “For a job like that, I don’t know, bruh…”
My eyes narrow, but I don’t push. He might need to shift multiple times if things go bad.
“I could use a couple more bodies,” he says seriously.
“Go up north and hunt freely.” My eyes sharpen. “But donotdraw the attention of the SCU.”
