Story: Tempt Me (Asylum Devils #2)
I followed Judas into the alleyway, making sure he couldn’t see me. I couldn’t believe he was fucking alive. The way I took this man’s death was something I’d never fucking understand, and now I was watching him walk down the street like he never left.
Have I lost my mind working at the Asylum for so long?
Maybe he wasn’t real, and I took a ticket to the crazy train.
I didn’t even tell the triplets where the fuck I was bolting off to. I just clapped Roe on the shoulder, threw some birdseed at him and his wife, and took off running.
Judas was speaking to Xenia at her grave. I couldn’t believe he was the one to kill her. No one could. Why would he be talking to the one he killed? Was he apologizing? Taunting her ghost?
I walked closer and tried to catch what he was saying.
“Sorry, kid. This is definitely not bedtime material, but I just wanted you to know I’m making it right tonight. You can rest easy.”
Making it right?
Little Chip, what the fuck are you up to?
I followed him to one of the alleyways outside of town, watching as he spoke to himself. His imaginary friends were likely in his head.
Was this his own actions? Or theirs?
“You suck ass. Randy would have told me where to snuff my ass. Hell, he would do it for me.”
Oh, fucking hell, Little Chip, you better not be thinking what I think you’re thinking.
Judas found some abandoned buildings in the absolute shit part of town.
No one was around here. I used to patrol these parts and lived on them before that.
This building used to be a wood chipping shop, but it closed down years ago.
I didn’t think even Snow White knew about this place.
I came here at times when I needed to think.
Why would Judas be here of all places?
“Judas,” I called out, but he was already busting out a window on the upper floor and jumping through.
“Dammit,” I cursed, jogging to catch up to him. I couldn’t get my footing and wondered how a seven-foot two-inch man could climb this shit like a spider monkey.
After a few minutes of sliding down the debris and broken pavement, I gave up and went to the front of the doors. The padlock would be nothing with my Glock. I positioned my pistol over the lock, saying fuck it to my surprise.
Before I pulled the trigger, I heard his words. He sounded scared.
“Judas?”
The dirt-covered glass of the door showed cracks in his image. He was on the second-story ledge, and something was attached to him. I frowned, trying to clear the smudges with my shirt sleeve.
“I have sinned…because I have spilled innocent blood.”
“No!” I screamed, watching as Judas fell from the ledge, his body jerking to a halt with the noose clearly wrapped firmly around his neck.
“Fuck!” I shot the padlock and smashed my entire weight over and over into the door. I saw Judas choking. His strangled sounds unraveled something inside my damn inner parts.
“You goddamn asshole! Hold on!”
Smash, smash, smash.
Finally, The door gave into the impact, and I flew forward onto the ground. Judas was swinging above me. He wasn’t choking any longer.
“Fuck!”
I aimed my Glock at the lines of the rope and pulled the trigger over and over, some missing and others fraying the rope. Desperation took over as the rope finally broke, and Judas fell to the ground.
He was motionless.
I got on top of him and smashed the ever-loving shit out of him, performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions. Finally, I could feel his heartbeat. I was breathing like an ox, trying to watch his chest rise and fall in a continuous, steady rhythm.
He coughed and looked up at me, his eyes refocusing.
“Liebling?”
I scrubbed my cheeks and shook my head at him. “Yes, you damn fool. I am here.”
He looked down slowly at my position on his body, and I couldn’t help but blush. Fuck this man for making me feel different.
“You should have told me,” He wheezed, bringing his hands to weakly lay on my thighs.
I frowned at him. “Tell you what?”
"That dying…” he said, going into a coughing fit before continuing in that weak tone. “That dying would be what gets you on top of me.”
