CHAPTER
THIRTY-SEVEN
Kenni
To my surprise, we hit the floor before we start drinking.
Not our usual MO.
We don’t need alcohol to be Shenanigans Inc.
We ride the bull, which I send the boys a video of.
Ash sent me back a screenshot of me screaming with laughter and told me it was my new photo contact.
The boys are always saying how much happier I look, and I can’t wait for them to learn it’s because of Dean.
Ash and Flint have always adored Dean, and I am a bit worried to tell them since it’s so soon after I left their dad, but I know I’ll have their support.
With love warming my heart, I play pool and darts with Missy and Sadie before heading to the floor for our favorite line dances. Our laughter is loud, our dancing amazing, and that sense of safety that Sadie and Missy offer me is like a hug as the music blares through the speakers.
I love them.
I’ll always love them, and while I know Dean and I have Sadie’s support, I am scared shitless of Missy’s reaction. Sadie offered to tell Missy, but I’m the one who has to do it. We’re adults, and if she has a problem, we’ll have to figure it out because I love being in Dean’s orbit.
When we’re out of breath and in need of hydration, Sadie points to the bar to let us know she’s getting drinks.
I follow Missy to a spot in the corner that thankfully is a little quieter.
When she sits, she pulls me to her and wraps her arms around my neck, pressing me into her chest, her breasts hot against my face.
“Missy, you’re suffocating me with your titties. ”
She lets out a barking laugh but hugs me tighter. “I just want you to know how much I love you.”
Great. All the guilt comes crashing into my chest as I sigh deeply, but I still bask in her love.
I hug her back, and she kisses my temple.
When I glance up, she looks at me in such a loving way, my eyes burn.
She moves a curl behind my ear, and her eyes sparkle with different shades of blue.
“Since coming home, you’ve been so much brighter, Kenni. ”
“I’m home.”
She boops my nose. “Yup, where you belong.”
And I’m having regular sex with a beast of a man. I’m pretty sure I’ve had more sex in a week than I have in my entire life.
I’m sore, but I have no complaints.
Sadie sets shots on the table along with three Coke Zeros before plopping down beside Missy.
“Why are we hugging? Let me in!” she complains before wrapping her arms around both of us.
I laugh as she squeezes me and pulls me in tighter.
God, these two. We part, laughing, before taking the shots that Sadie got for us.
I wince as the Fireball burns down my throat before chasing it with my Coke Zero.
Missy holds up her empty shot glass then looks between Sadie and me. “I have news.”
Why am I holding my breath? Does she know? Before I can start freaking out, she says, “Nyle wants to knock me up.”
I blink and Sadie snorts. “Be real.”
Missy shrugs. “Nope, true story.” She sets her drink down, letting out a long breath. “We’ve gone to the doctor. I can get pregnant, but it’ll be high-risk.”
I state the obvious. “You’re almost forty.”
She laughs. “Oh, I know, and I’m gonna be a crazy bitch, but I want a baby too. With him.”
My heart swells at the sweet look on her face. She’s grinning, her cheeks pink and her eyes full of excitement. Sadie’s brows are arched as she asks, “You sure?”
“Yeah,” she says softly, almost shyly. “I want this.”
“Then let’s have a baby!” Sadie yells, smacking the table, and I grin widely.
I wrap my sister in a tight hug, giving her a big kiss on her cheek. “Congratulations!”
“It hasn’t happened yet, but yeah, I’m excited.”
“You should be,” I say, meaning it, and I ignore the fleeting thought about having Dean’s baby.
My ovaries can go kick rocks; I’m not having another kid.
Unless he wanted me to.
Jesus. Where did that thought come from?
I shake my head free of that idea as Missy tells us about how they’ll try naturally at first since the doctor is pretty confident they can make it happen without his assistance. My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I lean to the side to check it since I’m sure I know who it is.
Dean
Just thinking about how good you looked before you left. Wishing like hell I were spinning you on the floor.
My lips curve, my heart kicking up as I type back quickly.
Me
Same. But get this, Missy and Nyle are trying for a baby.
Dean
Well, that wasn’t on my bingo card.
Me
LOL Same. And then my ovaries were being little cunts, wanting to chuck eggs at you.
Dean
…
Dean
Do I catch them?
I snort loudly, which earns me the attention of my sister and his. Sadie pops a brow as Missy points to me. “Why are you grinning like that at your phone?” I tuck my phone between my thighs as Sadie smirks, and Missy waggles her brows at me. “Wait, are you talking to a man? Not Stratfuck, right?”
My heart beats so hard, it makes my vision vibrate. I swallow hard, cutting my eyes to Sadie, who is sending me a reassuring look. My mouth is dry, but I refuse to feel like I’m doing something wrong.
Dean is not wrong. He’s what’s right in my world.
“It’s Dean,” I answer, and Missy rolls her eyes with a wave.
“Oh, I thought it was someone important.”
“He is important,” I say quickly, and she waves me off once again.
“No, I know. You know what I mean.”
Sadie nods in encouragement as I stare at my sister, who’s sipping her drink like I’m not trying to tell her I’m getting railed by her baby daddy. I draw a deep breath. “Yeah, but you don’t know what I mean.”
Missy looks up then, her brows pulling together. Her eyes search mine. “What?” My knee is bouncing so hard, the table is shaking. She places her hand on my thigh and sets me with a look. It’s as if I can see the moment when she knows what I’m saying. “Kenni, what the hell?”
“I didn’t mean for it to happen,” I say softly, but I’m looking her straight in her eyes. “But I don’t regret a thing.”
She barks out a laugh. “I can’t even.”
My heart sinks until Sadie says, “Miss, come on.”
But she ignores Sadie. “What are you thinking?”
My face heats. “What do you mean?”
“Like, do you like him?”
My nose starts to burn, and I look away like a coward. I can only nod, but when Missy yelps, I look up to see that Sadie has smacked her. They lock gazes, and they have a silent conversation I’m not privy to. Missy leans back, shaking her head. “He wasted no time, huh?”
I don’t understand. “What do you mean? ”
She sighs deeply before meeting my gaze.
“I don’t remember much from that night with him.
” Shit, I don’t want to know about this.
Before, I didn’t care, but now…now, the thought of her with him makes me stabby.
I clench my hands together and find that I’m holding my breath.
She eyes me and shakes her head once more, a small smile playing on her lips.
“Cool it, sissy. I don’t want your man.” Sadie snorts as Missy goes on.
“I was ten sheets to the wind on buttery nipples, and I was so tired of all the guys in this place. I can’t even tell you why I chose to come on to Dean.
I think I just did it ’cause he was there and I was horny. ”
“Yeah, not a fan of this,” I mutter, and Missy just laughs.
Sadie gives me a sympathetic look. “How do you think I feel? Both my best friends have slept with my brother.”
When she gags a bit, I groan, letting my head fall back as Missy laughs. “At least she can remember what she does with him. Me, I couldn’t tell you anything other than one thing.”
I lift my head, intrigued. “One thing?”
Probably his dick. Damn thing is massive, but I don’t want her to talk about it.
Her face fills with color, but she doesn’t look away. She looks so self-conscious, and I’m confused until she says the next part. “When he came, he grunted your name.”
My mouth parts, and Missy shakes her head. “Yeah, I was so embarrassed. And while I already knew it was a really bad idea, him moaning my sister’s name as he came inside me was the icing on the cake.”
My jaw drops more, but Missy just laughs.
“So, we didn’t talk after because he knew I heard him.
And when I came up pregnant, I told him I wouldn’t marry someone who was in love with my sister.
That we’d have to raise our child together, but we’d never be together.
” My heart stops dead in my chest. “And you know what he said?”
I can only shake my head, unsure if I’m even breathing at this point. It’s Sadie who takes my hand in hers and says, “He said that was good with him because he wouldn’t marry anyone but you. ”
Tears well in my eyes as I look away, trying to process what they just said.
This happened seventeen years ago. Something isn’t clicking here for me. “He moaned my name?”
They both laugh as they nod. “He sure did, and he didn’t even apologize.”
“Why would he? He doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to,” Sadie laughs, leaning back in the seat. “Probably imagined Kenni the whole time.”
“Wow, thanks,” Missy says, but she’s not offended. She’s laughing. “It was the lowest moment of my life, but we got Skyye.”
“He liked me?” I ask, so blown away by all this.
Sadie arches a brow. “ Like ? Kenni, my brother has been head over boots in love with you since we were kids.”
Missy snorts. “So much so, I’m surprised you were here a month before he made his move.”
I blink, unable to accept what they’re saying, but…
it makes sense. I’ve felt his adoration, his eyes that are only ever on me.
Even when we were younger, I felt them. I craved them, but he never made a move.
I don’t get it. If he felt so deeply for me that he’s moaning my name when he’s with my sister, then why didn’t he tell me?
Why didn’t he come after me?
Why didn’t he make me his before Stratford got his claws into me?
