Page 81 of Starborn Husbands
Husband. That word sends a bolt through me. Gods, we’re hitched. I’m married.
“You’re spinning,” he says. “C’mon. You’re not going to overthink tonight.”
But I whine when he tries to pull away. “I want to stay here.”
“And I want to fuck a beautiful star in my bed.”
I stare at the night sky. It’s dark and our kin wink and blink at us. He finally devises I’m not going anywhere—just yet—and joins my star gazing, rolling off me, but pulling me onto his warm body.
“Do you remember your time up there, after your time on Earth?”
“Not much of it,” he says, running his fingers through my hair. “It’s peaceful. Did you look up and think of me?”
“Why would I have done that?” He’s never asked that question before, and it’s not something I would have thought about. But, huh, can’t seem to pull up a memory from that time.I was probably off fighting some demon or something.
“With contempt, I mean,” he says. He kisses the top of my head.
“Probably.”
His dick is already waking up underneath me. He lifts me in his standard over-the-shoulder carry without warning. I kick and shout. He lays a paw print on my ass, and every finger of that print throbs with stinging pain.
“We have a date with my bed.”
CHAPTERSEVENTEEN
Treyu
There’s a hand sliding down my thigh, which then makes a detour over my pelvic bone and heads straight for my dick. It’s like he knows everything about my body already. “Mmmm, you learn quickly, babe.”
I refuse to open my eyes without coffee. How is this going to work? I’m supposed to get him coffee and his breakfast, but without coffee to power me, none of that’s happening. This is one of those unsolvable problem thingies.
His hand changes course, trailing up my torso to pinch my nipple. My dick fills at a steady pace, and I inhale sharply.
Then there’s thewhooshof the door opening. “Treyu?”
Wait a tick. “Zhang?” Springing up like I’m on fire, my eyes finally open, and Zhang’s at the door with murder in his eyes and … is that coffee?
Then who…?
The scent of gardenias registers with my sleepy brain, and the evil, crystal-toned laugh is confirmation. Rolling onto his back, now dying of laughter, is the angel of fucking chaos.
“What the fuck, Merrick?”
He glides off the bed, shaking out his long black hair, his full-length jacket fans around him. He’s still wearing his boots. He spreads his black wings and then folds them, allowing them to disappear to whence they came. It’s all for show. The runes etched onto his skin glimmer as he runs his blue angelic light over them.
Something akin to a metaphorical bolt of lightning strikes my insides. I run to Zhang, which is not characteristic of me, but Merrick is … he’s … Godsdammit. He’s not only a weakness of mine but a source of heartbreak. I pick the worst men for myself.
“I’ve come to collect what belongs to me. Thanks for having him returned to the Nebuli, Zhang Centaurus, as only you could. I’ll make sure to put in a good word about the angel thing for you,” he says.
“Collect me? Do I look like a McDonald’s Happy Meal toy to you?”
Neither of them takes the time to appreciate my joke. Zhang’s busy removing his jacket and draping it over my naked body.
“He belongs to me, Merrick.”
Merrick shines his nails on his bicep. “Because you married him? I don’t care about star marriage customs; I care about angel ones. Treyu has always and will always belong to me.” Merrick snaps his fingers. “Get your ass over here, Orion. Now. You wouldn’t believe the time I’ve had getting here. I’m in no mood for disobedience.”
“With a hello like that, just give me a moment to run into your arms.”
