You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. I sigh and rub my hands over my face, and then I sit up and take in my surroundings. Everything is white. There’s nothing in this room other than a bed attached to the wall. Stars need washroom facilities. Am I supposed to piss in the corner?
I’m dressed in white, too. White T-shirt. With cotton pants. Okay, yeah, we get it, this place is fucking pure. My feet are bare and it’s cold. I shove them under the covers. Even though I haven’t been here before, I know where I am: Heaven’s dungeons. I know who put me here, too.
“Merrick! Merrick! Get your feathery ass up here!” I pound on the transparent wall. It’s nothing but a barrier that I can’t cross. It shudders when I smash my fist against it.
Merrick’s talked about these dungeons. In Heaven, they’re “upstairs” rather than down. Heaven is just another planet in the Atlantean star cluster. Some of us call it Atlantis, but Atlantis is below Heaven, in a sense. Atlantis is where the demigods reside.
An angel—who isn’t Merrick—rushes to my cell so I’ll stop screaming. “You need to calm down,” he says.
“I’ll show you calm. You get Merrick here right now, or I’ll cause a ruckus.”
“I’ll be forced to sedate you.”
“Then do it. How am I even supposed to piss?”
“You won’t need to while you’re here. You won’t need food either.”
Well, that kinda sucks. I like food. “How do I get an audience with Merrick?”
“You wait until he visits. He’s been to see you every day. Your chances are good.”
So. Many. Questions. “Who are you?”
“Gadreel.”
“Why do you look like an eighteenth-century Tudor from Earth?” Seriously. The dude’s even wearing one of those ruffle collar things. He looks like he’s about to bust out a little Shakespeare.
“You don’t want to get off on a bad foot with me, Mister.” He shakes a finger at me like I’m five years old.
I roll my eyes. “Get Merrick here and get him here now. I’m a freaking guardian. I don’t care if this is Heaven or whatever. I have rights.”
“You’ve got shit, kid. Last I checked, guardians had sunstars. Stop screaming, or I’ll knock you out.” I open my mouth to shout again because that might be preferable to the boredom of nothing. “Before you do that, if I use my angel juice to knock you out, you might miss seeing Merrick when he comes. Wouldn’t want that, would you?”
Fuck. That’s checkmate.
I storm back to my bed. “Can’t you at least make it warmer in here?”
“I could,” he says, sauntering off.
But he’s not going to.
Asshole.

Merrick has always been like this. I met him when he was on some business in our star cluster. He had a meeting with Father, and Atlanta and I were chosen to attend with him. I’d met other angels, but nothing like Merrick.
Angels are made of good and light … but Merrick is a war angel. He was raised for fighting, and that was so fucking hot to me. I wanted to know everything about him. I especially wanted to suck his dick. To my shock and great fucking glee, he wanted to let me suck his dickandeat his ass.
After the meeting, he asked my father if he could have a word in private with me. Father wasn’t born last century. He knew what Merrick wanted with me, but I was an adult and could make my own decisions.
Father and Atlanta left. Merrick slammed me against the wall and kissed the life out of me. I thought he was going to kiss me until I suffocated, and I was going to let him. Who needs oxygen when you’ve got a literal angel sucking face with you?
“Get on your knees,” he said.
Ending the kiss was supposed to give me breath, but I lost it again and dropped to my knees. He pulled out his dick.
