“9!” I shout. “There’s no time!”

He growls, hunkering down to the closest orderly. He leans in, ripping his throat out, chewing and grinning like the psycho he is. He keeps going back, taking chunks out of the dead man’s body. My stomach churns, and I have to turn away.

“Holy fuck!” Synn yells. “That’s some sick fucking shit!”

“Pay attention, guys!” I yell to them all. “We’re not in the clear yet!”

I brace myself for the masks to come at us again, but shockingly, they back off. Demon looks at me, pausing—just staring.

“Soon,” he whispers, making goosebumps break out on my arms.

They all turn around, running away. My jaw drops. What the hell is going on here?

Without hesitation, I go to check on everyone. Synn is beaten up pretty good, but there’s no knife wounds. Ghost is practically unmarked. Razor grimaces, holding his gut. But he appears to be alright, the stab wound is pretty shallow. I move to him, whipping off my shirt.

I hold it tightly to him. “Put pressure on that.”

Purge has a couple of stab wounds. One to his upper arm, and one under his collarbone. They look nasty, but not so deep I worry about his life. He nods at me, confirming he’s okay.

I look at 6, who’s still smiling. She's been beaten up pretty badly. Her face is swollen, with one eye bubbled shut. Blood trickles down her face. She's clutching her abdomen.

“Are you okay?” I rush to her side.

“Yes, yes, nothing I haven’t dealt with a bazillion times already,” she responds. “My ribs are bruised, but don’t feel broken.”

“Can you make it out?”

“Of course!”

Good. 3 is completely untouched, as is Bryan. I look at 3, and he silently removes his shirt, handing it to me.

“Thank you.” I reach out to stroke his face, then I blow out a breath. “Okay, everyone, we are out of time. We need to move!”

Without waiting for them to reply, I rush to the stairs, taking two at a time upwards. I hear everyone stampeding behind me.

I keep going, bursting out the door and racing to the end of the hall where the cell Bryan was in is. I skirt the corner, going for the door of the storage shed.

My heart hurts as I cross my fingers that it’s unlocked. I put my hand on the handle, holding my breath as I turn it. It turns and opens—thank fuck! I run outside, sucking in the cold, night air. I turn around, making sure everyone else makes it out, too.

I glance at my phone screen. Fuck! Our time ran out! I grab out the map, looking it over. “Okay. We ran out of time, which means the cameras are back up, and the fence is on again. Luckily, we can go this way.” I point behind me. “We’ll jog around the corner once we reach those two tall trees. It's a straight shot to the road from there.”

I pause, making sure everyone heard me clearly. “From the road, we go left, following the side of it until we see Jax’s car. Everyone understand?”

I get thumbs up, and yeahs from them all—except 3.

I take his hand. “Stay with me. We are going for safety. I have more friends waiting in a car to take us far away from here.”

His eyes widen, and he looks like he’s about to cry. Surprising me though, he gives me a hand squeeze, determination radiating from him.

I smile tenderly at him. “Okay, guys. Let's fucking go!”

We take off, getting to Jax as fast as we can.

Chapter 42

Hunter

I heara commotion coming from the trees, despite the windows being closed. Some huge, bald guy runs full-out, a crazed look in his eyes. The bald guy stops unexpectedly, grinning as he takes off all his clothes. He's covered in blood, grinning like a maniac. Buck-naked, he runs right past our car and just keeps going.
