Synn pushes out his arms, and with Razor’s help, pushes the shelves farther out, almost to the center of the small space.

“Good job,” I praise them in a soft voice. Ghost and Purge rejoin us.

I take a breath, carefully going through the doorway. It's dark, but there’s enough light to see there’s a winding hall. I stop, waiting for the others. We’ll leave the door open since we have to get back out this way.

Knowing time is ticking fast, I hurry through the hall. It cuts left and right with no rhyme or reason. It seems endless, yet we must keep going.

Just as I’m about to scream in frustration, I see a strip of light ahead. I gasp, speeding up to get to it. Synn tries to grab my arm, but I shake him off.

I hold my breath and poke my head into the opening. Not seeing anyone, I go through the entryway, eyes widening. I know where we’re at! It looks like the place Bryan and I originally woke up in.

I turn to the guys. “I know this area. It is probably the holding cell area for new students. There should be large cells coming up.”

Excitement hums through my veins, keeping alert as I look for Bryan. With my attention split, I fail to see someone coming straight for us. It's that fucking bitchy nurse. What the hell is she doing in here?

It doesn’t matter, because she will be dead in moments. I look at the guys, and make sure they see me slide a knife out, holding it away from the nurse’s line of sight. I walk straight up to her, and she opens her mouth to shout. Ghost pushes behind her, clapping his hand over her mouth. Without hesitation, I grip my hunting knife, slicing her throat. Blood sprays—I hit her carotid pretty dead-on. Her throat gapes open like an obscene smile, and a whistling sound comes from her neck as she tries—and fails—to breathe.

“Die, bitch!” I spit impatiently.

She drops to the floor, and I kick her body as we go past.

Chapter 40

Trikk

This isthe longest walk ever. We finally made it to the road itself, and now we’re trekking towards Jax’s car. I’m holding Valley’s hand, knowing Bambi would appreciate the extra step of protection.

I may not be much on fighting, but even I have my limits. I will not hesitate to kill anyone who gets in our way.

Growing up, I would pester my father to teach me the “cool” stuff—fighting, weapons.

Trikk Age 10

“Father, why can’t I learn what the other boys are? I need to learn those skills too, yeah?”

He looks up from his desk, shooting me a glare. “You know not to interrupt me in here, Son. Now, what are you yammering about?”

“The other guys are learning to fight and hurt people—even to kill! Why aren’t you teaching me that stuff?”

He huffs, shaking his head. “You’re not cut out for that. I have a different purpose for you in mind.”

“What do you mean? I can kick ass too!” I cross my arms, an angry pout on my face.

He just laughs at me. “You are a perfect specimen, my son. You were created with beautiful, perfect features. You will be much more useful in other areas.” I open my mouth to ask what he’s talking about, but he cuts me off. “I’m busy. Go on now. Close the door behind you.”

This is bullshit. I'm tough, dammit!

I see the car up ahead—good. Frost and Harris are still in front of us, waving us forward. We break into a jog, making it to the parked car within seconds. We stand and wait, wanting to make sure this is actually Jax.

The car door opens, and a huge motherfucker steps out. He's tall, and built a bit like Synn. Blonde hair, and a frantic look in his eye. He nods to Harris, then asks, “Frost, Valley, and Trikk, I presume?”

“Bro, you saw us on the video call,” Valley laughs softly.

I chuckle, liking this girl’s moxie. She's a lot like me. I'm glad someone shares my type of humor.

“Just being thorough,” he says. “Get in. This thing has enough space for you all.”

It is a huge SUV, built like a military tank in size. There are tons of seats inside. It's black on black. There's a partition that cuts off the driver’s seat from the rest of the inside, like in a limo. There are even fold-down seats near the back.
