I fall asleep there. Warm. Safe. Happier than I ever remember being.
When I wake, we’ve stopped moving. It’s dark outside and disorienting. Justice eases me off his shoulder. “I’ll be back. Spence is keeping guard.”
“Where are you?—”
He gives me a fast kiss. “You’ll see later.”
I doze more, curled on the seat under a thick wool blanket that Spence had in his truck. My body is lead. My brain a happy, but very foggy mess.
When the door opens, a rush of cold air startles me awake, but soon I’m bundled into Justice’s arms and we’re driving off into the night again.
The next time I wake up, Justice is carrying me up a set of metal stairs onto an airplane.
“Whoa. Is this a private plane?” I ask around a yawn.
“Agile owns a couple.”
Spence whistles. “Wow. This company’s got some serious chops.”
Justice settles me into a seat, buckling me in.
“That’s plenty tight,” I tease when he goes crazy with the seat belt.
When he sits down, I buckle him up. “There, just wanted to make your seat belt as secure as mine.”
His eyebrows rocket up when I accidentally brush his bulge.
“Oops.”
He gives me a molten look. “There’s a bedroom on this plane…”
“Which I’m calling dibs on,” Spence says, busting it down the aisle to the room at the rear of the plane.
Justice grumbles, but leans his seat back. “Jerk. But truthfully I get a little airsick when I lay down while flying. I’d endure and go kick his ass out if you want me to though.”
“Oh, no, this is just fine.”
Hm. I look around. No one else on the flight.
“So…” I ask, “Will the flight crew stay up front?”
“Once we’re in the air, why?”
The blush starts at my collar and swiftly moves up my neck.
“I was just thinking maybe I could… take care of you. With… you know, mymouth.”
I whisper the last word.
Mercy. I’m not sure who I am these days. The old Rosalie would have died before saying that. But everything about doing this with Justice feels good.
His eyes widen as those dark brown eyes become almost totally pupil. “Seriously?” he half-wheezes.
“Yeah,” I whisper, my smile refusing to stay hidden.
We take off quickly after a short visit from the pilot, also employed by Agile, and a beautiful woman at that. She gave me a wink and said, “You two have a good flight.”
Oh, that’s my plan. But Justice refuses to let me take my seat belt off—typical protector mode.
