“No idea.”
“This has to stay between us,” he tells them both. “Her people don’t know about us.”
“This is fucked up,” Kim mutters.
West ignores Kim and turns back to Matt, taking another long sip of his coffee. “Ruby seems fine. Pretty shaken up last night, but fine.”
“And you?” Kim asks, sliding her shades to the top of her head.
“Me?”
“Yeah.”
He shrugs. It has rattled him. There’s no use denying that. He wouldn’t have them both here at nine in the morning otherwise.
“I want that shit in her house cleared up as soon as possible,” he says to Kim. “And her security is a joke. It needs tightening.”
“Shouldn’t her people be dealing with this?”
“Because they’ve done such a fantastic job so far!”
Kim rotates the plastic lid of her coffee, examining him over the rim of her cup. “There’s only so much security can do, West, you realise that? Some dude broke into the Queen of England’s bedroom once and she’s got to be one of the most heavily guarded people on the planet.”
“The cops will take DNA samples. They’ll be running it through their databases. There’s a good chance they’ll catch this freak.”
“DNA?” Kim glances between the two men. “Shit.” She takes another gulp of the coffee and slides off her seat. “I can get this all sorted, but you should talk to your girlfriend first. I don’t want to be on the receiving end of a verbal bashing when it turns out she doesn’t want me interfering.”
“Get the place cleaned up and I’ll message you about the other stuff once I’ve spoken it through with her.”
Matt thumbs over his shoulder. “I brought a bag of her stuff with me like you asked. It’s in my car. I’ll just grab it for you.”
“Thanks man.”
“You let Matt rummage through your girlfriend’s underwear drawer?”
“I’m a gentleman, Kim. I did it with my eyes shut,” Matt tells her.
“So the poor girl’s going to have mismatched panties and bras.” She jabs a finger in West’s direction. “You’ve got so much to learn, my poor innocent little baby. Here’s my first word of advice. Buy her some new things.”
Matt hums his agreement. He’s been happily married to Nigella for ten years and has five kids, so his opinion is probably worth noting.
“Just bring the bag in will you,” West says, gesturing towards the door.
Kim slides her shades back onto the bridge of your nose. “I’ll get it sorted.” She hesitates. “This girl isn’t the cause of your recent bad moods is she?”
West winks at her. “The opposite, Kim.”
She glances up the stairs as he guides them both out to the hallway.
“When you going to introduce us to her then?”
“Not today.”
She blows him a kiss and then scoots out the door, and West waits in the doorway for Matt to fetch the bag.
“I’ll call you later,” he tells him. “Thanks for your help last night. I appreciate it.”
“No problem, man. She’s a stunner and seems like a nice girl.” He slaps West on the arm. “I can see why you like her.”
