Epilogue
Malin
One Year Later
"Malin...oh God... Malin!"Ma belle whimpers.
"Shhh, you'll wake the baby," I remind her.
"Please...oh..."
I stick my tongue in her mouth and muffle her cries as we unravel together in each other's arms.
I wondered if ma belle would change when she had our son. But she is still insatiable, craving me at all hours of the day and night. And my love for her only grows, which I didn't think was possible.
The baby cries, and I kiss her. "Stay here. I'll go get him."
I hand her the silk robe I shed earlier and put on a pair of boxers.
I go into the baby's room. Felix cries louder. Fat tears fill his blue eyes. I pick him up. "Hey, buddy."
He hides his face in the curve of my neck, and his cries turn into sniffles. I kiss the top of his head and bring him to the bedroom.
Emilia's eyes light up when she sees him, and she holds her hands out.
I was right. She's the best mother in the world.
I hand her to him, and he reaches for her breast.
She laughs. "Are you hungry already?" She opens her robe, and he latches on right away.
I stroke his head. "He's growing again."
Her smile brightens. "I'm not sure why we bothered buying six-month clothes. He's going to be out of them in the next week, I bet."
"I guess we should take the tags off the next size and wash everything, then."
Emilia kisses Felix's head. When we were looking at names, she wanted a French one.
"Felix means happy. This is what we should name him," she said when he was almost due to be born.
I liked it and the meaning, so we went with it.
"Are you excited to see everyone?" she asks.
It's the first time since Hunter and Vanessa's wedding everyone is getting together. It seems that weddings are keeping us all close even though some of us are farther away than others.
Vanessa and Hunter are living in Australia. Dirk and Zoe are in Spain, with their little girl, Fernanda, who they named after Dirk's grandmother. Axel and Penelope moved not far from them. Penelope is pregnant. Millie is excited to be a big sister. She's been learning to change diapers when she visits with Fernanda.
All of our friends got married, and everyone went to everyone's weddings, except Ryker and Julieta's. They've been traveling the world, checking things off their bucket list, and haven't decided where to live yet. They recently sent an email to everyone, with a picture of them in mud, claiming they said their vows in it.
Naomi and Andre are getting married this weekend. They moved to France when Emilia and I left. It was about two weeks after Gustave officially took control of Interpol.
Andre and Naomi live only a few miles from us, and we see them all the time. It took Naomi a while to warm to me. After she and Emilia spoke, she was never mean or said anything about us, but we had moved to France before she fully embraced me.
I never blamed her. I still hate that Emilia was ever subjected to the Global Leaders. We don't talk about it a lot, but whenever we do, Emilia acts like it isn't a big deal and says, "I was with you, where I always wanted to be. Why can you not see the beauty in our story?"
I've never understood how she can be so forgiving, or how she took so quickly to the lifestyle. And there are parts she still craves.
