This can’t be happening.
It’s true? Rhett’s my mate?
Tell him,the voice demanded.
No!I snapped.
Why?
Because you’re wrong. Rhett will never accept me because of my Hunter bloodline.
He will,my animal replied. And I am never wrong.
CHAPTER11
RHETT
Nova shoved at my chest. I took a few steps back, even as the savage need to take her raced through me.
Nova’s scent had transformed into a captivating fragrance that nearly brought me to my knees. I knew with every ounce of my being that her delicious, sweet smell was calling to me.
My cock stirred and stiffened, straining against my jeans.
My mouth watered with the need to taste Nova.
All of her.
Every inch.
Her fragrance called to me, trying its damnedest to link us together. I was scenting her animal. Her jaguar was awake.
Mine. Claim. Mine,my inner beast demanded.
Shut up, beast,I groused. There was no way in hell I was claiming a Hunter.
“You should go.” She bit the words out, tight-lipped.
I released her. “That’s not happening.”
She licked her bottom lip. The gesture made me tremble with the urge to nibble it.
“Why?” She pinned me with a glare. “This time I swear to double-check the doors and windows.”
“No.” I tightened my hands into fists as I fought the overwhelming urge to strip her naked, exploring every inch of her.
“Maybe if I left the Ridge,” she murmured, “it will solve everything.”
I ruthlessly swallowed a growl before it could erupt. “Solve what?”
“Shit!” Her eyes widened. “I didn’t mean to say that aloud.”
“Are you talking to your jaguar?” My eyes narrowed, waiting for her to tell me the truth.
Her lips parted, then closed, then parted again. “That’s none of your business.”
“So that’s a yes.” I reached out, grazing the side of her cheek with the back of my hand. “Talk to me, Nova. Tell me what’s going on.”
“I… ugh.” She threw her arms in the air. “Okay, fuck it.” She started pacing back and forth. “I might be suffering from a delusional disorder brought on by the owl-shifter attack. That has to be the problem, because hearing a voice in my head cannot be real unless I’m losing my shit.”
