Bonnie shut the door. “He’s not going to do that.” Her cell rang. “Hi, Freya,” she answered. “Yes. Your spell brought my granddaughter to me. Hold on a sec.” She looked over at me. “Nova, I have to take this. Can you bring the sheriff a slice of pie?”
I crossed my arms. “Nope.”
“Be nice, Nova.”
I arched a brow. “Who says that I’m nice?”
“I do.” She pointed to the left of the room. “The kitchen is down the hall.”
I rolled my eyes. “Fine.” I got up with a huff and stormed toward the kitchen.
“Thank you!” Bonnie called out.
I grumbled all the way to the kitchen. Finding the pie in the refrigerator, I cut a piece, plopping it onto a plate before marching out of the kitchen. Bonnie opened the front door while continuing to talk on her cell. “Yes. Isn’t it exciting? It’s your spell… again.”
Stepping out of the house, I stomped down the stairs, glaring at Sheriff Asshole, who was leaning against the hood of his cruiser.
“Here.” I shoved the plate at him. My heart skipped a beat when his fingers grazed mine while taking the plate. “Bonnie says this is for you.”
“Still upset with me, huh?” he asked, his eyes roaming over me from head to toe. My skin tingled as if he’d sensually stroked my skin.
My nipples throbbed and pebbled, and I crossed my arms to cover them.
“You threatened to toss me out of town,” I grouched.
“I want to protect you.” He took a big bite of pie. “Big difference.”
I heaved a sigh. “I can protect myself.”
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “I’m sure you can, but I’m going to be here just in case.”
His words eased a little tension. I had fighting skills that I’d learned over the years, but I wasn’t sure I’d be much of a match against a shifter in animal form. And I wasn’t going to admit it out loud because Rhett already had a big enough ego as it was, but his being here to protect Bonnie and me was a big relief.
“Whatever,” I grumbled before walking away.
“And next time, you better serve me pie with a smile,” he demanded with what I recognized as humor in his tone.
Despite the fact that his gravelly voice sent vibrations of lust throughout my body, I shot him the bird over my shoulder.
“Is that your age? Or your IQ?” he shouted with laughter still in his voice.
Ignoring him, I stepped inside the house, slamming the door behind me. “Fucker!”
CHAPTER7
RHETT
“Damn,” I hissed while running my hands through my sweat-dampened hair. “This shit is not happening.” After I’d arrived home from my shift of keeping watch for trouble at Bonnie’s house, sleep had been elusive.
Every damn time I shut my eyes, I was plagued by a dream of taking the hybrid against the wall while clutching a fistful of her thick hair as I fucked her hard.
Her skin glistened with sweat while her thick thighs gripped my waist. Her brown nipples jiggled from the thrusts of my cock pounding into her welcoming slit.
Her throaty voice screamed, “Rhett!” over and over. The sounds of our labored breathing and the slapping of our bodies in perfect synchrony rang in my ears before I released my seed inside her hot pussy.
I grunted aloud, “It will be a cold day in hell before I fuck that Hunter.”
I despise Hunters.
