“Why did you wear your boxers in the shower?” I ask, shamelessly staring down at the tent in the fabric.
“Didn’t want you getting the wrong idea, Demon. I was caring for you, not taking advantage.”
“Are you going to try to convince me you’ve shoved a bottle of shampoo down there then or something?” I ask, quirking a brow at him.
The smile he shoots me in return almost makes the events of the past ten days worth it. Almost.
“Nah, it’s all me, baby,” he says cockily. “I can’t resist you.”
“You seem to be doing a pretty good job,” I mutter, watching intently as he pushes his thumbs into the waistband of said underwear and wrestles the sopping wet fabric down his legs, releasing his hard cock.
It’s wrong, I know it is, but my mouth waters at the sight. And his smirk tells me he damn well knows it too before he reaches for a towel and covers himself up.
“Come on, Demon,” he says. Wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me into his side, he steers me back toward my bedroom.
Mum is hovering in the hallway, and my cheeks burn at the thought of her hearing our conversation. Without realising it, I take a step in front of Toby, hiding his almost naked body, and more so the tent in his towel.
Mum’s grin tells me that she didn’t miss the possessive move, but she doesn’t comment. Instead, concern swallows the amusement that was there moments ago.
“How are you doing?” she asks, taking a step forward and reaching for my hand.
“Toby looked after me.”
A smile curls at her lips, and I’m reminded of just how much she seems to be on Team Toby, even after everything he’s done.
“Good. So he should,” she quips, looking over her shoulder at the man in question. “I’ve left you some clothes on Jodie’s bed. They’re Joe’s, not…”
“Thank you,” Toby says when the tension from what Mum didn’t say becomes too much.
“I’ve made you fresh hot chocolates and left you some snacks. If you need anything, please just shout,” she urges me, her eyes pleading with me to let her help me.
“We will,” I assure her. “Thank you. But I’m okay. Really. Toby was there just in time. Almost like he was stalking me or something.”
His hold on me tightens, only confirming what I already knew.
It also makes me realise just why those Wolves were inside Foxes. It had nothing to do with Jesse and everything to do with the man standing behind me.
“I’ll be downstairs for a bit. I’m not sure I can sleep yet.”
She disappears before we get a chance to say anything else, and Toby ushers me into my bedroom.
“Finally,” he says, dropping a kiss on my shoulder. “I get to properly check out your bedroom.”
“It’s not exactly how I imagined it would happen,” I mutter.
“Go sit down. Where are your pyjamas?”
“You want to go rummaging around in my drawers?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe,” he deadpans with a smirk.
“You’re a nightmare. Over there.” I point. “Third drawer down. Underwear in the top.”
I sit on the edge of my bed and watch him as he looks through his options and chooses something.
“Interesting,” I mutter as he drops a matching set of PJs beside me that are covered in teddy bears with ‘I want a hug’ printed across the chest, and a pair of my biggest, comfiest knickers. Seriously, they’d make Bridget Jones proud. He’s certainly gone for comfort over style.
Dropping to his knees once more, he holds the underwear out for me to put my feet into.
