Rebel

Six Months Later

“T his is fuckin’ surreal,” Rocky began with a champagne flute filled with beer in his hand and a smile on his face. “My baby brother is now somebody’s husband. Stranger things have happened, I guess. Harper, you’ve always been family, but now it’s official. Welcome to the family, legally.”

Harper blew him a kiss while Gio tried to steal it away, which made everyone in the ballroom laugh. “Thank you, big brother. Love you, man.” Gio slurred his words and smacked a kiss to his wife’s cheek.

“This is the rowdiest wedding I’ve ever been to,” Nikki whispered beside me, looking beautiful in a sparkling green and gold dress that made me want to take her somewhere private and strip it off her. shit, the truth was I always wanted to rip her clothes off and now that we lived together I could—and I did—anytime I could.

“You having a good time?” It was important to me that we enjoyed these moments of happiness. It was a long fucking road these past six months. Her nightmares still happened, less frequently but regularly enough that she’d started seeing a therapist. Her physical scars were long gone, which let her focus on the mental scars.

“No,” she sighed. “I’m having a blast.” Her brown eyes sparkled with joy, and I knew she would be all right. It would take time, but my woman would come back to me in time. “But it’s time to join the women and help Harper change.” She stood, kissed me deeply and then went off to join the rest of the old ladies.

“Can’t believe that little shit got me to wear a monkey suit,” Rocky groaned as he sat in Nikki’s chair and handed me a flute of beer. “How’s it going?”

“Better than ever,” I assured him. “Nikki is getting better every day and Livvy is perfect.”

He laughed. “She calls me Uncle Rocky Road because it’s her favorite ice cream.”

Yeah, my girl had charmed the whole MC. “She’s amazing.” My gaze landed on her, dancing with the other MC kids while the prospects watched. As soon as she spotted Nikki, she rushed across the dance floor and hugged her tight. “That’s my cue.”

“What’s going on?” Rocky grabbed my arm.

“Only everything, brother.” I stood and watched as Livvy whispered in her mother’s ear just as we practiced.

Nikki stood straight and her eyes found mine across the room, a shy smile on her face.

I walked over to my woman and pulled the box from my pocket, palming it in my hand. “Hey.”

“Hey,” she sighed. “Livvy said you wanted to ask me a question.”

“I do.” I clenched the box tighter and held out my hand between us, opening my fist slowly.

Nikki’s eyes widened as she looked from the ring to my face. “Don’t you even think about getting down on one knee. I’m not looking for a knight in shining armor, I want a partner.”

“Got it,” I said and took her hands in mine. “Good because I’m the partner you want and need. I want to spend the rest of my life making you smile and laugh. And come,” I mouthed the words since Livvy watched us closely. “I want to watch our daughter grow up, maybe give her a few siblings to boss around and most of all, I want to do it all with you for the rest of my life. Nikki Harris, will you marry me?”

She nodded and covered her mouth, a few tears formed in her eyes. “Yes Logan, yes I’ll marry you!” She threw herself at me, hugging me close as she tilted her head up, ready for a kiss.

I kissed her like she was my everything, because that’s exactly what she was. I never thought I was the mushy type of fucker who believed in love and happy endings, but with Nikki and Livvy I didn’t just believe in it, I was living that shit. “She said yes,” I shouted as we separated and ended the kiss.

“I did!” She raised her hand in the air to show off the ring. She squealed when I pulled her in for another hug, then whispered in my ear, “Maybe we should get married before the baby comes.”

“Baby?”

She nodded and my eyes grew even wider. “Yeah, I was going to tell you tonight, but… here we are.”

She was wearing my ring and carrying my second child, yeah life was good. “Vegas is right up the street.” I didn’t care how cheesy it was, I wanted her to be my wife as soon as possible.

She threw her head back and laughed. “Let’s let Gio and Harper have their night. We have the rest of our lives to take care of the details.”

The rest of our lives. Those five words never sounded so appealing.

Until now.
