I could hear Massimo let out a small sigh from his seat as I walked out the door. I shook my head and turned back to look at him.
“You worry too much.”
“And I never thought I would have to say this to you, but you don’t worry enough. A storm is brewing, and we need to take each step with care.”
I let my eyes roam over him. Something was going on with him.
“What’s got you so worried?” I asked.
“Luna wants babies.”
It took a moment for his words to sink in. Then I threw my head back and laughed. “Good luck with that, brother. Do you need some pointers?”
He scowled.
And that was my cue to leave.
I walked out of the room and into the kitchen, where all my family was gathered. I stood there for a moment, taking them in as I imagined Isa being here with everyone. She would fit right in—somewhere between Giulia’s recklessness and Luna’s shyness.
And a huge part of me couldn’t wait to make that happen as soon as possible.
Fuck me.

I parkedby the tree at the Gambino’s house, waiting for Isa. I opted for the truck today. It was a big monstrosity that I usually didn’t drive, considering it couldn’t pick up enough speed to get out of a trickysituation.
That, and it usually drew more attention than I wanted or needed.
But the truck wasn’t registered under my name. No one would know I was behind the wheel, and the windows were tinted in the darkest shade possible without crossing over any legal lines.
I was getting tired of all this sneaking around. And I fucking hated dropping her off here every morning as I tried to fight off the wrongness of the feeling.
Maybe Massimo was right. Perhaps setting up an arranged marriage with her was the better option. I didn’t want to blindside Valentino with it. And I didn’t want to force Isa into it if she wasn’t ready.
It fucking sucked that this was the way it was for a lot of the women here, but it didn’t have to be that way with Isa.
She should have a choice in the matter.
I was still lost in thought when the passenger door opened, and I was instantly hit with the familiar floral scent.
I turned to her as she struggled to climb up on the seat. I leaned over and helped her up. She closed the door behind her and looked at me.
“Hi,” she said shyly.
I reached over and pulled her in closer to me, pressing a quick but firm kiss on her lips. I felt her smile against me, the move taking off some of the weight I had been feeling on my chest over the past couple of days.
“Hi, baby,” I said when I pulled away. I couldn’t see her clearly because of where I was parked, a good distance away from the house, and with no streetlight nearby. I cupped her cheek and brought her in closer to me.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
I looked at the time. It was a little after nine. Not too late, but it wasn’t early either.
We couldn’t go out in Las Vegas. There was a chance we would run into someone we knew, and it would be just my luck to run into Matteo.
God, I fucking hated all this sneaking around.
