“Where the hell are your sequins?” Mac turns to Hendrix, looking over her outfit. “You look super-hot, but I thought we were all going to be sparkly.”
“Listen, Cap, I know you wanted us to be in sequins, but I don’t do bling,” Hendrix replies. “So, this fitted black top is going to have to do. Okay?”
“Well, you do look hot,” I chime in. Everyone agrees.
“We should have pregamed like we used to in college,” Mac says as the Uber slows to a stop in front of the club Danny asked us to meet them at.
“I’m sure the guys will buy us plenty of drinks and we’ll be fine,” Hendrix says as she climbs out of the Uber.
“Ladies!” Danny calls.
Danny, Nick, August, and Jase are standing by the entrance waiting for us. Jase looks sexy in his black pants and polo shirt. I look him over closely and wonder if tonight will be the night I get to see what’s underneath all of that.
“You look lovely tonight, Cassie,” Jase whispers to me as I pass him.
I look up at him, into this chocolate-brown eyes, and smile. “You don’t look so bad yourself there, English,” I tease him.
He just laughs and shakes his head.
“But I have to ask, are you expecting a flood?”
He looks down at his pants. They stop just at his ankle. Danny’s pants are easily touching his shoes. August is in shorts and Nick has on fitted jeans, but they definitely touch his shoes.
“This is how the English and the stylish do it,” he tells me, winking. “Keep picking on me like that, and I might have to take back the comment I gave you on your outfit.”
“You wouldn’t do that. And even if you did, I know you’d by lying. I look hot tonight.”
“That you do.” He looks me over again before adding, “What would you do if I took ahold of that ponytail and used it to guide your head back or… in other directions?”
I can’t help but smile. “Well, that wasn’t a benefit I had thought of when I did my hair this evening.”
“What was on your mind?” he asks, stepping farther into my space.
“That it would help me stay cool while I was dancing,” I say lamely. I wish I was better at flirty talk the way he can be sometimes, but it just doesn’t come naturally for me.
He smirks. “Well, two birds, as they say.”
We make our way into the club. Amelia tugs my hand forward so that I’m walking with her, separating the two of us. I don’t see him again until we’re crowded around a table sipping on a mixed drink that August bought a pitcher of.
“What the fuck is in this?” Nick asks, wincing. If I had to guess, it’s the sweetness of the concoction, but I’m not complaining. I like a sweet drink.
“It’s the punch they had on special. It has fruit juices and rum. Mac and Hendrix practically creamed when the bartender said what was in it,” August tells him.
“Nice, man,” Jase says, shaking his head. “So, fucking classy.”
“Did you really expect anything else?” I ask him.
He turns to me and grins. “No, not really.”
“Hey, I’m the one who’s buying drinks tonight,” August says. “You all better be nice to me.”
“You know we love you, man,” Danny says, clapping him on the back. “Even if your taste in drinks is fruity.”
“Whatever. Booze is booze,” Nick relents.
“Come on, ladies, we should go dance!” Mac calls out.
“Hang on,” August tells us. “In order to help with the dancing, I’ve got some shots coming. Let’s do those, and then you can go dance your asses off.”
