“Let’s get married, Seb.” She replied, and he gave her a blinding grin.
“Abso-fucking-lutely.”
And that’s what they did.
Through the vows to love and cherish each other, and exchanging rings. Thankfully, no one objected. Though she knew Seb would have shot them if anyone dared to.
Then, Pastor Danny declared. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
Everyone went wild with raucous cheering as Seb and Sunny shared their first kiss as husband and wife!
Sebastian was her husband! Holy smokes.
“Got you at last,” she said into his mouth, smiling together.
It was a whirlwind after that. The old ladies had done wonders with the clubhouse, transforming the central area into a wedding reception decorated with flowers and ribbons.
It was incredible to share her happiness with her favorite people, but she was focused solely on Sebastian as he kept her close to his side, no matter who came to speak with them.
Later, after all the first dances and cutting the cake, she sat on his lap, playing her fingers through his hair.
“I didn’t expect to see you in a suit. You look so handsome, my husband.”
“Had to look good for my little wife.” He smirked, and Sunny let her fingers drift to the base of his neck. That’s when Seb grunted, and she saw lust enter his eyes. “You keep touching me, and this party is gonna be over.”
“Do you promise?”
She was ready to get to the next part of their wedding day. She’d been prepared for weeks, months, forever, to have sex with Seb.
With his mouth pressed to the side of her neck, he swept the breath out of Sunny by telling her. “I promise to fuck the virginity out of you, baby, until I’m soaked in it.”
“Hey,” she heard someone enter their bubble, and she turned to see a somber-looking Tanner. Though his eyes swept over her face, she noted he avoided looking at her as he fist-bumped Seb. “Congratulations, happy for you both.” He then leaned in to kiss Sunny on her cheek.
She supposed things might be awkward between them for a while, but she hoped she’d return to a good place with her friend again.
But it wasn’t long after she realized how wrong she was about that.
For hours, the clubhouse partied and celebrated them.
Seb spun her around on the dance floor. He fed her wedding cake and then sneaked off to make out and talk about what he’d do to her body. Sunny was buzzing with excited nerves as she slipped away to use the bathroom before they left.
As she exited the bathroom, she was in a state of pure bliss, thinking about Seb. Her husband. She could not get over that word. Finally, that man was all hers. It had only taken twenty years, which was not a bad record.
The door closed behind her, and she headed back to her husband when she saw a worried-looking Tanner tromp out of one of the spare bedrooms on that floor.
She noticed his shirt was untucked and half unbuttoned, and his hair was disheveled. His face looked guilty when he saw her.
They’d hardly spoken all day, and she was okay about that.
Not sure how to proceed since he’d tried to kiss her, but she stepped forward, about to ask him if anything was wrong.
He walked by without acknowledging her. It wasn’t like she hadn’t expected it since their interaction the other day, but what caused Sunny’s stomach to clutch was watching Clover walk out of the same bedroom as she adjusted her bridesmaid’s dress strap onto her shoulder.
Her hair was unclipped and now hanging over her shoulders.
Clover’s face turned red when their eyes met, and Sunny charged forward.
Her mind was putting two and two together and coming up with something unspeakable. She grabbed Clover’s arm and nearly steamrolled her back into that room before anyone else saw her and came to the same conclusion. If their dad saw, the party would turn into a bloodbath.
The bed was a mess of tumbled sheets. Her stomach grew greasier.
“Tell me you did not.”
Clover’s coloring intensified. “W-what?” She tried to go around Sunny to get to the door, but Sunny stepped in her path and slammed the door behind her.
“Tanner just walked out of this room. I’m putting the math together in my head, Clover, and I do not like the answer.”
Her eyes fired, and she snapped. “It’s none of your business.”
“None of my business?” she asked incredulously. “If he’s had sex with you in this room, I’m going to shoot him in the fucking head!”
That sobered her younger sister, who grabbed Sunny’s arms. “Please don’t. It was nothing.”
“So, I’m wrong thinking you had sex with him in here, am I? Tell me I’m wrong.”
Clover couldn’t lie for shit. Her face was an open book, and she whittled her lip with her teeth. The surge of anger rose in Sunny, but she swallowed it.
The next question nearly burned Sunny’s throat, but it had to be asked. “Was it consensual, Clover?”
“Of course it was. Jeez.”
“Are you sure? You’re not lying for him, are you? You can tell me if he pressured you.”
She was going to kill Tanner, regardless of the answer. That little fucking bastard.
“Sunny! I swear, he did nothing I didn’t want or ask for.” Then she started crying, big fat tears falling down Clover’s face, and Sunny panicked, grabbing her sister to hug her close.
“It’s okay, button. Don’t cry, it’s okay. I’m going to kill him, and then it’ll be okay.”
“You can’t.” Clover sobbed into her chest.
“Yes, I can. He had no right having sex with you; for fuck’s sake, you’re underage for one. And it’s just fucking wrong.”
“You must be angry; I’ve never heard you say so many F-words.
And, yeah, it’s wrong.” Clover agreed, pulling away.
She wiped her face with both hands, looking like her world had collapsed.
“Because while you’ve been loving Seb, Tanner was loving you, and I was loving Tanner.
” She hiccupped, and Sunny’s eyes widened.
Oh, shit. She’d never guessed that Clover had feelings for Tanner.
“He wasn’t having sex with me. He was having sex with you, Sunny.
I was just the stupid consolation prize who looks like you. ”
And once more, Clover bent in half and sobbed her heart out as Sunny wrapped her arms around her baby sister. They sank to the floor together.
What could she say? There was no cure for heartbreak, nor ways to take back an idiotic mistake.
When she was settled, looking embarrassed and holding her knees, Sunny asked. “Was he good to you?”
“Do you mean, did he make me finish?”
Oh, god. She meant had he mistreated her. That conversation with her sister was the last thing she wanted, especially now, but she had to face it.
“Yes, he was good to me. Twice.”
Oh, lord.
“And he was safe?”
“Yeah, don’t worry. There won’t be any evidence of what happened here. I’m sure he’s so glad about that. Having a kid with the wrong sister would end his world.”
Oh boy. Sunny’s heart hurt for her sister, and she squeezed Clover’s fingers.
“Hey, Sunny?”
“Yeah, button?”
“I bet you didn’t think I’d be losing my virginity before you did, huh?” she said sadly, and Sunny brought Clover into her arms again. “I love you with all my heart, little sis. I’m sorry you loved someone, and I didn’t realize it.”
“I’m sorry, too, for being a snot to you. It wasn’t your fault. I know you’ve never been into Tanner, but it was easier to blame you because he didn’t like me that way.”
“That doesn’t matter. We’re always sisters, aren’t we? No matter what, I’m always here for you.”
“Please say nothing. I couldn’t stand people finding out how stupid I was. Can we forget it?”
“If that’s what you want.”
“It is.” She spontaneously hugged Sunny.
“I think I’ll ask Daddy to take me home.
I’m tired.” She pulled away and brushed at the skirt of her dress.
“I’m sorry I took the focus away from your wedding; I didn’t mean to.
I love you, Sunny, and I’m so happy you have Seb, you’re soulmates.
” Before Sunny could reply, her sister slipped out of the room.
She had to gather her thoughts for a long minute.
There was only one person she wanted to see, and she found him talking to her new husband in the kitchen.
The fury built in her like an inferno, staring at her brother-in-law. He put down the bottle of beer he’d been holding.
From the look on his face, he knew she knew, “Sunny, look…”
She didn’t let Tanner get further; she marched over to him. She abhorred domestic violence, but her limbs were shaking with rage, and for the first time in her life, Sunny drew her arm back and cracked someone across the face.
“You absolute bastard. How dare you use my sister like that!”
“Sunny!” Seb said, moving forward toward her, but she waved him off with a hand.
“Do you know what he’s done?” she fumed, pointing a finger at Tanner. “This absolute lowlife had sex with Clover.”
Sebastian’s head whipped around, and his curse blistered the air.
Tanner looked riddled with remorse as he scratched around the back of his neck. “Listen…”
“I will never listen to another thing you have to say. My sister! My sister, Tanner! Do you know what you’ve done? You could go to jail. But it wouldn’t get that far because my father will hold your head underwater.”
He was a mess, and she regretted feeling sorry for him before her anger took over.
Tanner had never been a bad guy. He was dependable, friendly, and kind. But this was unforgivable, unthinkable, so unlike him. And she was seething.
“I have no excuses,” he said soberly. Her handprint was evident on his cheek. “I didn’t rape her, Sunny. You have to know that. It all just snowballed.”
“Does that even matter? You shouldn’t have fucking touched her.”
“We were talking, and I lost my head. It just happened. I’m so fucking sorry.”
He’d lost his sanity, and she wanted to rip the skin off his bones.
Each time she remembered Clover’s broken face in her mind, she wanted to attack him, but Sebastian held an arm around Sunny’s waist from behind, holding her back from clawing Tanner’s eyes out. From the look on his crestfallen face, he would have stood there and taken it.
Sunny wanted to go home.
But before she left, she turned to him again.
She knew it was anger speaking, but she couldn’t stop the words.
“You are dead to me. Do you hear me, Tanner? You’re no longer my friend; you’re not my brother-in-law; you’re nothing to me. And if you dare go near Clover, nothing on this earth will stop me from telling my father what you’ve done and then watching him tear you apart.”
His jaw was tight, but he took every vicious word she spat at him. “And when Seb and me have kids, they won’t have an uncle.” She finished.
“Okay, baby, we’re leaving.” Her husband said, drawing her away. He said something to Tanner, but she’d already switched off.
She let herself be led out of the kitchen, saying goodbyes to family and friends. In Sebastian’s truck, she turned to him.
“For tonight, can we forget all that happened and focus on us?”
“Sure, sunbeam.” He brought her knuckles to his mouth and left her hand on his thigh.
And then Sunny let her husband take her home. It wasn’t the exciting end of the night she’d been anticipating forever.
But she was determined not to let Tanner’s stupid actions ruin the first night of the rest of her blissful night.
All she wanted was Sebastian.
