Page 30 of Our Haunted Omegas (Moonscale Heirs Duet #1)

Cobalt

I didn’t tell Odell that of course the three of us knew how to build a nest. While plenty of couples built their nests together, it wasn’t uncommon for the alpha to build a nest for their omega.

Plus, our carrier always let us help out whenever it was time to ‘remodel’ the nest. We could’ve done it on our own but it was nice to work with our guys and I kept my trap shut because it felt old-fashioned to say aloud but also because Odie lit up as we all worked together creating the structure that would one day house our future children.

“I think if we survive the whole feast thing without me having too much anxiety I want to try. I know that sounds crazy, doesn’t it?

” Odie rambled onto our mating link. “I mean, with Reve just dying like that and a hand following us around. I mean it is following us around. It followed us out to the tower. It hugged my ankle, Co. It hugged me. I think I want to try for a baby if my anxiety holds out.”

I let out a long, slow breath and fought off the urge to ask once again if he was sure, it wasn’t a wraith. Sure, it wasn’t behaving like the wraiths I’d seen before but he and Ambry had both been through enough that having a negative entity form from their trauma wouldn’t surprise me.

“Do you think I’m crazy?” he asked.

“Yes,” Ambry chimed in like a smart ass.

“Stop eavesdropping!” Odie shot back.

“You’re not crazy,” I said aloud.

Ambry was joking around but I couldn’t not defend Odell.

Everything inside me reared up for an argument but there wasn’t much bad I was willing to say to him.

He was Indigo’s mate and knew Odell longer than I had.

The omegas shared a look and laughed as we wrapped another twisted blanket into place.

“I don’t think you’re crazy because you want to try for a baby,” Ambry clarified a few seconds later. “I think you’re crazy that you let the murder spirit hug you.”

“It’s not trying to murder me,” Odell shrugged.

“How do you feel about this?” Ambry asked me.

“We don’t know what it is yet. It’s not a wraith. I’m not sure it’s from a haunted object Reve had because if it is, why is it still here?” I shrugged. “A friendly-ish poltergeist maybe?”

Across the room, Teal glanced at his phone and frowned.

“What?” Indigo and I asked him at the same time.

“The Temple of Juda has finished going through Reve’s belongings. Co’s right. Nothing there is possessed or haunted.”

“Duh,” Odie sighed. “Sorry. I just meant it’s still here. It’s just a shame that it doesn’t take a kinder form like a dog or something.”

“We should call Liam and them in to cleanse the house. Are they coming for the feast?” Indigo asked.

“They’re not. Liam’s pregnant again and Starry is hosting some sort of meditation retreat to boost magical ties within different groups.

You know, the same old, same old. Uncle Leo and Vex are on some trip to some fox village for a vacation or something too.

It’s like the whole coven is busy now that we have something for them to do,” Teal sighed.

“We’re all grown up,” I rolled my eyes.

A soft bark sounded off from inside the half-built nest and we all startled back except for Odie. He scrambled into the nest. I snatched for him but missed him and tumbled in after him.

“What the hell?” Teal said, peering over the edge.

Inside was a tiny dog composed of the same materials as the hand and tendril. Apparently, the murder spirit was taking orders from my mate. It was sort of hot as far as dangerous abilities went.

“Are their shadow witches in your family? Or witches at all?” Indigo asked.

“They’re witches and magic users in everyone’s family. We fought a whole war about it,” Teal sighed.

“Don’t fight,” I frowned, looking from one of them to the other.

“I’m not going to fight him,” Teal frowned back at me. “Seriously, Uncle Nicky wants to banish it. So, if we’re not going to let him, he’s going to want answers.”

“Then the whole coven isn’t busy,” Indigo pointed out.

“I don’t know if there are any witches who can do this in my family.

I didn’t kill that lizard, though,” Odell shook his head, rolling onto his back and pulling the shadowy dog onto his belly.

I bit the inside of my cheek so that I didn’t tell him not to put the dog there.

Logically, it wasn’t safe, but the dog walked in a few circles and then curled up as if it planned to sleep.

“You didn’t kill anyone,” I said, shooting Teal a pointed look.

“Don’t fight,” Indigo chimed in.

“Brothers outside,” I said, pointing to the open landing door.

“Will you be okay?” Indigo asked Ambry.

“We both will,” he nodded and climbed into the half-built nest with Odell.

I hated leaving the omegas alone with the murder spirit but it seemed content with Odell.

If he needed a blood thirsty familiar to keep his anxiety away, then I’d box anyone who tried to take it away from him.

To hell with logic. Our grandparents asking if we needed people murdered was never a joke.

It couldn’t have been because I would’ve murdered anyone for him.

“He didn’t kill anyone,” Indigo said before I had a chance to speak. “Even if that’s his magic, he didn’t do it.”

“It’s fine if he did,” Teal said, leaning one hand against the tower wall.

“With the new evidence that’s come to light we know Reve was a predator.

You can’t hoard photos that weren’t given to you and sell them off.

You can’t watch people have sex without consent.

Who knows what else he did?! I’m with you two.

Though, figuring out what that thing is should be a high priority.

Odell isn’t going to take it well if someone tries to banish it. ”

“If they’re going to do that then I just won’t go to the feast. You two can go and take Ambry and Odell and I will stay home with the murder spirit.”

“Don’t call it that,” Teal groaned. “Plus, we’ll figure it out before then. Since we don’t have a better place to start we can either believe Crilus was right and it is a haunted object or we start digging into Odell’s family tree.”

“I don’t think we should poke that particular kraken,” I shook my head. “He’s finally not anxious and if you change that I don’t think my dragon is going to react well. No, scratch that. We all know that my dragon isn’t going to react well.”

“Then we ask him what he has that might be haunted,” Indigo said.

“Can we do that?” Teal asked me.

“We have to be gentle because my dragon is anything but right now. If he likes the murder dog it stays.”

“Stop calling it that,” Teal groaned again.

“You said to stop calling it the murder spirit and I did.”

“No murder in the name. Murder is in cold blood. What it did to Reve was a form of protection. It didn’t harm Crilus and it stopped when Odell said he didn’t like it,” Indigo said.

“And I agree, we have to be gentle. I’m not going to sit back and watch Ambry be upset either and they’re all tied together.

Hell, some days I think they’re more closely linked than the three of us are. ”

“Not gonna lie. I sorta feel teamed up on right now,” Teal said.

“We’re not teaming up on you. We’re on the same side,” I told him. “You’ll get it when you meet your mate. We just don’t want them upset. Besides, Ambry might be pregnant already.”

“He might be,” Indigo nodded.

“The fact you think I’d upset them---” Teal started but I cut him off.

“Not on purpose,” I shook my head. “And it’s not just you. I’d fight Medwin right now if he hurt Odell’s feelings.”

“I think if I had met my mate at the same time as you two, we’d have died. So, what can we ask him?” Teal sighed.

“Let me lead that,” I said, turning to go back inside.
